Gunsmithing Model seven

Re: Model seven

they are a littleshorter than the rem 700 short action. You will be limited to the bottom metal and stocks for it as its not nearly as popular as the R-700.

I had a 6x47 lapua built on one that shoots amazingly well out to 1200yds , I used a Joel Russo laminated stock (A5L) with a 1-7.5 Barlein 5R tube in light varmint conture

Newer models have two holes on the rear bridge

The triggers are interchangeable but the bolt stop/ release mechanism is different. The front of the actions are the same so barrels are interchangeable as well. With the difference in action screw spacing, the stocks are very different as well as the bottom metal.

Re: Model seven

Can a Model 7 use M700 ADL trigger guards? If I were to order a Manners inlet topside for a Model 7, forward bottom hole drilled for Model 7, and rear two screws for the ADL metal and inlet for the ADL metal?

Basicly can an M700 ADL trigger guard be fit onto the Model 7?

Re: Model seven

Please clarify something for me. I have M-7 in .260 Rem. I have an Original .221 Fireball pistol. While I was in a local Sporting Goods Store talking about rebarreling rifles, I was told the the Rem-600 action(.221 Fireball) is the same as the Rem M-7 action(.260 Rem). Now while I haven't read Gunsmithing 4 Dummies yet, seems to me a .221/.222/.223 siz bolt face will not geehaw w/ a .243/.260/7mm-08/.308 boltface! I have graduated from a Gunsmithing Course, but being on-line, the "in-shop" stuff like this was lacking. Has the M7 been around for 40 yrs? I Just would like an update to add to my Dummie file. But one thing nags me- Remington introducted the M-7 in 1983, soe your Uncle's cannot possibly be 40 yrs. old. Comments/I'd like help research what he had.

The bolt face does not dictate the action. There are 223, 308, 532 bolt face Rem 700 short actions. Swap the bolt out and you have a different capability, the receiver tube has no differences to worry about.

I am 90% sure the 600 action is not the same as the 700 though. As I remember reading a history of the development, the 721 preceded the 700 and was a short lived, albeit excellent, action. The 700 was the design refinement/evolution of the 721.

EDIT: The M-7 has a shorter rear bridge. This means the bolt is shorter, the action and bottom metal are shorter, and the stripped action is lighter. The triggers, recoil lug, and barrel is interchangable (in dimensions) with the 700. The tenon joint on the 700 and the 7's are identical.

I'm pretty sure the front screw for the ADL TG would end up in the mag.

You can get a TG with only the rear screw. I think Sinclair sells it or maybe bruno's.

I've known of some people who have either epoxied in the front trigger guard screw or epoxied in a escutcheon into the stock that is threaded for the front screw.

Wrap it with McNetts camo form and drop a nice 3x9 on it and pile up the coyotes. You're sitting on one mean little predator hunting rifle. The 7's are awesome hunting guns. I've got one of the J-locked pre X-mark models in 7mm08 with a factory laminate stock that is a dream to carry. The old triggers tune up nicely too. If you're looking to build, just go buy a cheap ADL from wally world, an SPS from Academy or Dick's or hit the pawn shops and find an old donor action. You'll have way more options in the 700 platform.
