Well guys, I have a REALLY long chamber... it accepts a cartridge at nearly 2.942 OAL!

And therefore, I will need a longer magazine so that I can load closer to the lands for better accuracy...

My Rem 700 SPS Tactical is mounted in a McRee Precision stock.

Please provide information on the technique required to modify my action to allow consistent feeding from the longer cartridge.

Thanks!

If you knock the bottom of mag up towards the action a couple of times, you'll leave a witness mark on the bottom of the action. All it takes past then is some light dremel work.

I did my own...what you're looking to do is open the front of the action enough to allow the bullet tip to clear and start the ride up the ramp into the chamber. What you don't want to do is change the ramp angle; just break the edge with a small radius. I have what feels like a 1" x 1/8" rubber eraser in my dremel kit that fits on the tool. Whatever you use, go slow and use a light touch.

Like I said, I did it with a dremel. It's not the prettiest work ever, but it works. Just take off material up to the witness mark. Any more is a waste because you can only load as long as the magazine length. Just notch the front of the window, then only break the edge you've created on the feed ramp.

Oh, yeah - if you ball it up, it's not my fault.
