Hey Guys,

You all know anything about the Monarch X series? Its a little late to be asking because I just bought a Monarch X 4-16x50. I have heard good and bad. However I have owned a Nikon (lower end) before and had no complaints. Hopefully some of you have/had one or had/have experience with one. Also how does the glass and light transmission compare to a Loopy?

Re: Monarch X HELP!!

The only real problem with the Nikon X is that it lacks internal adjustment. I think that model only has 40 minutes. If you don't do a lot of dialing on the scope then who cares. However, I know a lot of people around here prefer scopes that have more internal adjustment.

Re: Monarch X HELP!!

I have a Monarch on one of my deer rifles and have no complaints. Good optical quality and field of view, easy to clear, tight & smooth adjustments (elevation, windage, and magnification).

I own two. One with a mildot and other with nikoplex reticle. The internal travel is not a problem if you use a canted base (ie 20MOA). The glass and light transmission is equal to a Leupy (I own a few of those also). Very positive tracking, outstanding tactile and audible clicks in the turrets. Sort of the Rodney Dangerfield of tactical scopes. (An excellent scope that does not get the respect it deserves.) Used ones go for around $650.00 here on the hide, sometimes cheaper. I highly recommend them.

Say you have 30 MOA up and 30 MOA down travel when your crosshairs are zeroed.

Adding a 20 MOA canted base would get you 50moa up and 10moa down. I have one on my R700 with a Monarch 3-12 and all it does is get me 20 more MOA to dial up for longer shots.

Re: Monarch X HELP!!

I've got Monarch's on a lot of my rifles, and like them a lot. My only complaint is the minimal amount of internal adjustments they have. My personal opinion is that the glass is better than the glass on my Leuppy Vari-x III. I can see through the Nikons a lot better when it's getting dark (same objectives and power settings).
