Anyone have experience with these? Debating whether to use their long action or a CZ550 for a
.458 Lott safari rifle build. The MRC has all the things I like, and nothing I don’t. They say on their website that the action has a dovetail shaped lug to facilitate a very smooth and non-binding bolt cycle. Is this so or is it advertising?

As for the stock integrity, I have seen heavy recoiling rifles that have a second recoil lug dovetailed into the barrel, but that’s it for additional support. Has anyone seen further measures taken in addition to cross bolts, pin in the wrist and second recoil lug? Is any more support necessary? I intend to build the stock from an exhibition blank, and it would sure be a shame to see it damaged under recoil without taking all precautions.

all the standard measures you outlined should take care of it.......however pay attention to the direction of the wood grain through the wrist, especially if you plan on using exhibition grade wood.

youll find many high powered safari rifles use relatively plain wood with straight grain......not as attractive, but a whole lot stronger.

also be sure to glass bed the action and both of the recoil lugs, thatll help take up any slop and better distribute the forces on the recoil bearing surface.
