A few months back I had some bolt knobs installed on a few rifles. On some of the rifles the bolt would not close with the new knobs installed, because the knob would hit the stock before the bolt could fully close. I tried contacting the smith about the problem on here and never heard back from him.
So I gave up on getting him to fix the problem and contacted monteboy84 to see if he could fit my bolt knobs, by welding them on with a spacer in between the knob and handle. Well I just got my bolts back, and a few other parts that I had him Cerakote, and I couldn't be happier! Instead of welding the knob on with a spacer he retreaded the knobs and milled off the old threaded rod and installed tac ops studs in place of them.
If anyone is looking for a bolt knob install or to upgrade the current knob you have I would highly recommend sending them to monteboy84. I've had a few other knobs installed by different smiths using different methods and IMHO this install method, when done correctly, is by far the most professional and strongest aftermarket bolt knob install method. This method, in my opinion, looks much more like the knob was originally designed to go with the rifle, and not some after thought.
This thread is not meant to bash any of the other great gunsmiths on the hide that do knob installs differently than this. This is just a review of my experience and I will not be giving out the name of the previous gunsmith that installed the knobs the first time around.
And here are some pictures!
