More Idiot Kids: Throw Eggs, Look at Manslaughter or Better

Interesting how they plan to handle it. Sure they threw the egg, but the other guy started the pursuit. Whether or not he brandished a firearm, he did show road rage and could have spooked the 14yo who knew he fucked up (and shouldn't have been driving either, so probably a stolen or "borrowed" car, all just upping the ante). I'm sure neither thought they'd get in an accident. If the guy pulled his piece and there's a witness, then his ass needs to be brought into all this too. Both of them are guilty IMO for causing an accident that didn't need to happen.

I've had a couple instances where someone with road rage tried to follow me. I'm armed, but I'd rather not get into that if I don't have to, and I'm not leading 'em home or the neighborhood either. In the past when I was younger and knew the roads well, I had a million places to lose someone, get 'em stuck and leave. Once on I5 a guy kept pulling in front of me and slamming his brakes. I passed him and he started chasing me! I left his ass. Eventually, after he'd woven through traffic to catch up to me, he THEN turned on his lights. I had no idea he was a cop before that moment. He was a jail cop in a white van, no markings, no lights, no radar, no camera, no witness, no training for traffic. And he was a dickhead. He charged ME with reckless driving! I beat him in court of course, but I had to bother with it. Still, the fact remained had he not chased me, I'd never have ran off. And if he didn't like whatever it was I was doing when he kept slamming his brakes (it wasn't tailgating) he could have hit is lights right away and I'd have pulled over and we could have talked about it.

This is just another incident of people doing the wrong thing and making the wrong choices afterwards. Only this one had a bad ending.

It's better to get their license plate and deal with it that way. A lot of police dept.'s have even stopped high speed chases. They do more harm than good.

By tomorrow the news is going to read that it was a semiautomatic handgun behind the wheel of a late 70s Lincoln Continental that t-boned the pickup truck.

Damned guns.

This morning - 14 yr old was driving Dad's SUV. He's now charged with murder. Guy chasing him has been located and is "cooperating." Probably will at least be charged with Failure To Stop And Render Aid, a felony in a fatal accident. However, he is reportedly Hispanic, so if he just happens to turn out to be illegal, maybe he gets a pat on the back and an encouraging word.

Can that be applied to third parties? He did not hit anyone.

I bet a lawyer can get him off easy if he's charged with that.

ETA: In my state such laws apply to the drivers of the vehicles that actually collided with another vehicle or object. Not to the drivers who were in other vehicles not part of the collision.
4549.02 Stopping after accident on public roads or highways.
(A)(1) In the case of a motor vehicle accident or collision with persons or property on a public road or highway, the operator of the motor vehicle, having knowledge of the accident or collision, immediately shall stop the operator's motor vehicle at the scene of the accident or collision. The operator shall remain at the scene of the accident or collision until the operator has given the operator's name and address and, if the operator is not the owner, the name and address of the owner of that motor vehicle, together with the registered number of that motor vehicle, to all of the following:

I don't know. That's what the "legal analyst" in the report stated. It does depend on state, as you mentioned. I got the impression that they were reporting what LE had told them their intentions were, but I can't verify that.

Kids showed bad judgement by taking the vehicle, throwing eggs, and trying to drive away. Guy chasing them had road rage, it will be interesting to learn what his story is and if it changes to something like "I didn't have a gun, I just wanted to talk with them", and how that may effect the outcomes. Without some kind of photo evidence, a confession, and/or witnesses, it is unlikely we will ever know the real truth.

It is truly unfortunate that these bad decisions (kids and the guy chasing) ended up with someone's death.

It starts at home. Good kids don't take a joy ride at 14 in the family SUV with two 15-year-old cronies for a bit of vehicle egging. Some kids are simply incorrigible. Otherwise, parents need to lay down rules and deliver on consequences for failure to follow them. If that fails, let the system deal with them one way or another. The idea here, aggrieved, road-raging egging vic or not, is to protect innocents from systemic failure.

Nah. I egged a house or two. I just didn't steal a ride to get there.
Yep and they hosed it off they next day no love lost... And the homeowner never got his snatch in such a wad to where they chased you down with a gun and caused the death of an innocent person in the process..... all over a fkn egg..... that ridculous.

Haven't heard yes or no on the piece yet. That said, nobody is making Mr. Hot Rod Lincoln out to be a saint.
