I have a Rem 700 with an H-S precision stock. It's not a "tactical" version, it looks like a typical sporter stock.

I mostly shoot prone, and I think it would be much more comfortable if the area where the shooting hand contacts the stock were more vertical as is typical with a tactical type stock.

Has anyone ever made a doohickey to extend the grip and make it more vertical? Does such exist commercially?

I have seen such things with Swedish Mausers (mine actually came with one). I don't know if anyone makes one for the 700, but chances are if there is a rifle for which one is made, the 700 would be it.

I put some screws (for wood) in front of Savage pistol grip to act as anchors, and then used Plastic Padding glass-filled epoxy to make the pistol grip more vertical. This was a temporary solution while waiting for my Russo stock, but the modification is GTG also permanently.

Good thing is that you can use a knife (remember it cuts glass so don't use your high dollar knife) to contour the grip, and you can always add more epoxy (remember to degrease).

We've done a few grips for e.g. AR15 race guns with that epoxy (using A2 grip as starting point). Takes a little time but it's worth the effort. You don't have to make any compromises.
