mosin nagant stock

i have a mosin nagant with a few extra stocks sitting around. they all of course look like crap. my goal is refinish one of them. has anyone done this and have any strategies or tips for doing this?

There are many ways to go about it, I use citristrip as it is not as nasty as other chemicals. Best advise I can give is to go slow, sand lightly (using a sanding block) and try not to remove the markings or cartouches.

I love the tiger striped M39 stocks, #3.
The MN stock, #4, looks pretty darned good.
