Hello,

So my 590a1 is my primary HD gun as my wife uses my AR15. I love the shotgun and would not take anything else if I were to fight in CQB hell. It has never one failed me and inspires confidence (especially with a bayonet at the end).

The only problem is that the standard LOP is way to long for me to square up to the gun. So I did what every pedestrian DIY-er does and cut the stock down, and sealed it in duct tape.

And... its fugly, but it fits me extremely well and points/shoulders a ton better than the OEM stock. However, I have grown very accustomed to a vertical grip on my rifles and would like to have a vertical pistol grip on my 590 for better wrist comfort and weapon control/manipulation.

I have not been able to find one, most of what I can find are cheap ones with a very low comb and a 14”+ LOP. The above stock is 12.75” LOP. I know Houge makes a short stock like my current one (sans duct tape), but I’d really like a vertical grip stock.

Any ideas for one with a 12-12.75” LOP? If not, does anyone know a stock maker who could make me a one off? I have made a cardboard cutout of the shape I want, but I lack the tools and knowledge to make one from wood.

I do not want an AR style buffer tube set up. I have tried the Magpul stock as well and it broke at the grip while practicing a horizontal buttstroke on a heavy bag (struck pretty gingerly)... and feel even less confident in a buffer tube performing the same action, so basically I’d prefer to have a hardwood/laminate stock.

Anyways, any ideas? Any of y’all competent enough to produce a one off stock?

Thanks,
- PBWalsh

Well they look kinda thin at the reciever connection point.

I’ll just shy away from buttstokes haha, more stabby stabby.

Will probably order the stock in a week or so.

Yeah man that shit pisses me off both my 500 persuader and 930 JM Pro are way too long. I have yet to find a fix.

I have allways preferred the Model 500 shotgun but have never noticed it having an excessive length of pull.
My 500, 835ulti mag and 590A1 I've allways found a good fit, maybe it's my height and length of my arms.
Hope you find something that fits you properly.

I’m 5’6 lol so probably a lot smaller and my wingspan is like a hummingbird ???

Haha, yeah, I'm 5'8", 220, about 25% body fat. Call it an in-shape fat person. Needless to say, I do have some thickness in the shoulder/chest area and it definitely reduces my LOP. An "average" guy at 5'8" would probably work with a standard LOP. Me? I can barely reach the forend at the factory stock length.

Going to buy this one below and maybe add their 1" buttpad after removing the basic .5" pad. Should net me around 12.5".

Thinking I’ll do the same but leave it at the 12 inch mark.

Understood, I'm 6' 2" and one of the runts of the litter in my family.
The Magpul fore grip I believe is a bit longer and would help a bit as well, I added that to mine and prefer it's shape and feel over the original but kept the speedfeed rear stock for the extra carrying capacity.
The Magpul rear assembly has a 12.3 - 14.3" LOP range with the spacer system as an alternative if you find you dont like the pistol grip.

I just put a Magpul hunter stock on my 10/22 and the lop is excellent. Maybe I should look into that for my 500.

I can't honestly say anything bad about any of the Magpul products I have bought over the years, all have been well thought out and designed.
I guess my only complaint since I now live in Co is I wish they were still here.

I tried the Magpul buttstock and did not find it suitable. Quote is from the OP. I do love the Magpul forend though, very functional and holds a Surefire nicely.

Sorry I missed that, i looked at them too but didn't care for the geometry and opted to keep the more tradition shape of the one that mine came with.
Hope you like the CHOATE, thier stuff in my experience is well made but heavy.
I used to live about 30 miles from Bald Knob Ar were they are located.

Yeah, I understand that, if I hate it I can always trade/send it back for a conventional stock.

I missed this back when you started the topic. When I got my 590A1 I saw there was a youth model (IIRC) and ordered it instead. So rather than getting the plastic stock, it came with a painted conventional wood stock with a shorter LOP. You might want to see if they sell it as an accessory if you go back to wood.
