Suppressors Most Compact .45ACP

Re: Most Compact .45ACP

I believe that the Kahr is the smallest semi-auto, ultra-compact .45acp available at this time. The Bersa Thunder, Glock 36 and the Taurus Millenium Pro are the runners-up with just a little additional height (but 6+1 capacity) and about an inch additional length.

The G36 is 1" longer, about 0.25" taller, and somewhere around 0.1" thicker/wider than the Kahr.

If you are seriously looking at the Kahr, get one in your hand before you buy because they are TINY and recoil is stout to put it mildly...especially with HD/carry loads. Make sure it fits you appropriately. I friend of mine has one and it was a chore for me to shoot with my big mits. I got my index, middle and small portion of my ring finger onto the grip frame with everything else hanging below the end of the mag. It was uncomfortable to shoot because my inability to get a solid grip on it with my shooting hand.

Ditto,

True. I carried a Glock 36 for some time before switching to a Kimber Ultra II. The Kimber is slightly larger but thinner and for me carries better than the 36.

Re: Most Compact .45ACP

Are these smaller than the Para Warthog? I had one for a while and really liked it. Never had a FTF and I ran three or four different types of ammo through it. Surprisingly controllable for a 3" .45 acp, and it held more rounds than my full size 1911's. It was more of a novelty for me, so I traded it for a S&W 1911PD.

Re: Most Compact .45ACP

All of the pistols listed so far in this thread are smaller than the Warthog. While the Warthog has excellent capacity for an ultra-compact, its 10+1 capacity makes it more difficult to conceal because of the much larger width of the pistol compared to the more slender (5+1 or 6+1) capacity of the others listed above. Also, the Warthogs are roughly 1" longer than pistols like the Kahr.

Re: Most Compact .45ACP

While I haven't heard on the status of it I believe Rohrbaugh is/was working on a .45 version of their R9 that no doubt would be the smallest .45 out there if they pull it off.

It won't be cheap though, and it won't be something to fire 5000 rounds a year through.

I held one a few months back at a gun show. Because of its size, I thought it was a 9mm, until I seen the big gaping hole in the buiness end. I immediately became excited, since I was already considering a compact 45acp. I would be using it for concealed carry. I realize it would have more recoil due to its weight/size but when it comes to self defense, I'm all about slinging some big lead. I have medium size hands and have shot several sub compacts where the pinky finger is tucked under; (.357 .38 .380 & 9mm). This has never been a problem for me. I had a sub compact Springfield 1911 but it was not as compact as the Karh. It was also all stainless, which was heavier than I liked for concealed cary. I have never owned a Karh but a friend has owned several in 9mm & 40. He highly recommends them.

Re: Most Compact .45ACP

I always thought the Liberators were an interesting concept (at least for OSS...for "up close and personal" business), but not exactly a practical defensive pistol being a single shot. You'd better as hell get the job done with the first round or you are basically going to be engaging in hand to hand. By the time you remove the grip plate/cover, grabbed another round, emptied the spent round, loaded a new one and fired again, an eternity might has well have passed!!

The PM45 is certainly small, but is unreliable as hell, don't buy one!

A friend bought one, neither he nor I could kep the thing from jamming. It went back to Kahr 3 times and was still unreliable. Finally went back a 4th time, and was promptly sold on its return.

I own/carry a PM40 and it has functioned flawlessly since break-in, great gun; the PM45, not so much.

My PM45 has run flawlessly. Very happy with mine. Maybe your friend just got a bad one, but, at that price one should expect more reliability. In reality it is challenging to make a sub compact .45 run. I'm pleased with mine to date.
