Most popular Micrometer Case Trimmer?

Looking for a good Micrometer based case trimmer. I don't need a motorized one, just one that will adjust with precision and it would be a plus if I didn't have to buy a bunch of shell plates / adapters if I can avoid it.
Suggestions?

Redding makes one as well - I think it's the 2400 model or something.

After doing a lot of looking around, the Sinclair/Wilson combo one seems to be the way to go unless they're advertising specs that are total BS. It's the only manual trimmer I've seen that approaches case trimming the way it does versus the RCBS shell holder/pilot with a cutter method or even the Redding ones where the cutter is stationary and you move the case. The Wilson/Sinclair design looks to hold the case perfectly square by design and I've been very impressed with all of the other sinclair products I've purchased. Only downfall is the $179 price tag.

I have 1 Wilson with the Sinclair combo and like it. I also have 2 standard Wilsons, 1 that I leave set for .223 and the other set for .308. Wilson tools are great, I just wish they offered the stainless version when I bought mine.

I saw the Redding 2400 you talked about.
I'm going to look into the Wilson / Sinclair model.

If you buy the standard wilson trimmer its a simple thing to pick up a good mic. head on ebay and have someone with a lathe open the threaded stop holder to the diameter of the mic head and substitute the head for the threaded stop and your ready to go. The heads can normally be picked up for five bucks or so. Better yet pm me your address and I'll send you one. I have made up a bunch of them for friends and have a few extra mic, heads.

Does anyone use the "RCBS Trim Pro Manual Case Trimmer Kit" - it's got micrometer adjustments and is about 1/2 the cost of the Sinclair

I need to get a decent trimmer but am trying to be a little cost aware since the last few months have been expensive. If this will hold the case square I don't see any major issues with it but would like to hear personal experiences...

Micrometer Case trimmer?? Why on earth would one want one, other than to say you have the best????

Call me old school, but I've been using the same Forster Case Trimmer for the last 30 years. As for micrometers, I simply trim one case to my desired length, and it becomes the pilot for that caliber, forever.

Sinclair makes some wonderful stuff, and I'm sure Ultimate trimmer is all that is advertised. But really a $63. Forster will do everything a $179. Sinclair can do, and you really, really don't need a micrometer to trim brass. It's a lather, rise and repeat function, and once you have a pilot piece of brass, it's ridiculously easy to reset.....

Hey, but it's your money, spend it as you will.

I use the RCBS trim-pro with one of their 3-way cutter adapters. I get square cuts - good enough for my use anyway. I don't see any variance in case length. Once you get the 3-way setup it's a breeze because it trims, chambers and deburrs at the same time. It takes a little while and you'll junk some cases up setting it, but it's good to go once you put the time into it. The only change I would have liked is a deeper VLD style chamfering versus the one it has on it.

Like BobinNC said, I save one case that's been trimmed to desired length to use as a jig if I need to switch calibers and then go back to the original caliber.

The mic is great if you trim a number of different cases and do not want to spend the time trying to adjust a screw thread to the exact length. As for the expense, as I said before it costs about 5 bucks to adapt the wilson trimmer to use a mic. and an awful lot of guys seem to agree that the wilson trimmer is the most consistant one out there, I certainly do.

why not just make one, and then use that as a pilot?

I guess it can come in handy if you reload diff calibers and go back and forth all the time, it can get annoying?

I'm using a Redding 2400 trimmer. The 2400 works like a charm with consistent square trims. The 2400 is also pretty fast for a manual trimmer too. I have used a Wilson trimmer and the resulting cases are pretty much the same. You have to get the cases inserted and locked correctly in the 2400 for them to trim right but it's easy once you have it down.

I'M IN THE SAME PREDICAMENT,BUT I'M JUST STARTING UP.I STILL WOULD LIKE TO GET A GOOD TRIMMER. YES I COULD GET A CHEAPER ONE ,BUT I'D LIKE TO HAVE A BETTER ONE.

Please stop yelling at us, ie typing with the Caps Lock on

The Wilson trimmer with the correct Wilson case holder is a micro lathe and will serve you well for a lifetime with proper care, I suggest adding a Sinclair stand and Sinclair Shark Fin holder, later if the need is there for a Micrometer Sinclair also sells that too. IMHO people get there panties in major wads over a few thousandth of a inch in trim length, 99% of us cannot shoot the difference, so don't worry too much about that, also do not use book trim length, buy the correct tool to properly determine your weapons trim length, Sinclair also sells that too, at the end of the day though your money will be better spent on a Giraud Trimmer instead of a hand cranking micrometer adjustable trimmer.

That's because the Wilson uses no neck pilot to guide the cutter. Pilots tend to collect brass shavings at the bottom and the metal build up interfers with further cutting. We can get much better consistancy with piloted trimmers if we pull the shaft back and clear the pilot of collected shavings before finishing the cut.

I have used my Redding 2400 for years with great success. I like the fact the it has a universal shell holder, it comes with multiple pilots, and the cutter is nitride coated. I eventually had to replace the cutter, but everything else is still GTG. Like is stated in the video, once you get in a rhythm a guy can run through a loading block rather quickly.

+1. Love my 2400. It's quick and with the micrometer adjustment, changing from one cartridge to another is as simple as a few twists of the wrist.

I have tried them all, (Mechanical case trimmers) The wilson/Sinclair is my favorite. Get the one with the stand, and shark fin and your in business. I simply turn the dial to 2.005 and it trims it to 2.005. Pretty dang easy. I just wish someone would make a trimmer head for it like the RCBS that deburrs/chamfers and trims at the same time.
