Mounting a cheekpiece

My Savage FCP Choate tactical stock came with 2 cheek pieces- normal and tall. They say the tall is for use with large objective diameter scopes. My scope has a 44mm objective. Would I still use the low cheekpiece?

Does shooting position make a difference in cheek piece height? I mean, is there a difference shooting prone or from a bench?

Does it matter how far forward or back I mount it?

Nevermind. I may be overthinking some of this stuff. I tried both, and the tall cheekpiece seems to fit better. When I drop my cheek bone against the shorter piece I didn't have a good sight picture. I had to slightly lift my head. The taller one positions my eye more directly behind the scope.

I am using a 20moa Farrell base, low Seekins rings and a Vortex Viper. I guess all of that might make a difference.
For me it doesn't seem to make a difference if I kneel and rest the rifle on a chair back or am prone.

The optimal place you want to be, is to keep a good cheek weld while sitting behind the weapon for several minutes. If your eye is not in the right position, you will strain your neck trying to keep the sight picture correct.

The closer you can be to this optimum position, the more relaxed you will be, the better shooting results will follow.
