Hiya Guys,

Looking for some mounts for my Schmidt. I will be mounting it on my Tikka T3 Tactical in .223 for a bit of 100-1000yd shooting. What mounts would you recommend. The shop I got the rifle from is pushing the Tikka Optilocs, the problem is they don't look very tactical. They look more suitable for a Sako stalking rifle with a graded stock.

I also considered the Accuracy international all in one which seems to work well for the military on everything up to 50cal, but it looks pretty ugly.

I like to look of the Badger Ordnance 34mm USMC M40A3 Standard 1.00" Steel Ring Set P/N 306-75. I am pretty sure the 1" high rings will do the job ok as well.

Are there any others that you think are better for the money.

Who sells the cheapest GENUINE badger products in the USA ???

How ugly it is should be of very little concern.

Badger Ordnance rings...

ETA: You have a $3,000 optic...you should probably crap out now with some cheap rings.

Guys,

I like the look of the Badger Ordnance 1" high 34mm scope mounts (USMC Model), but will they be ok on a Tikka Tactical with a Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25 x 56 ???

I think the objective lens housing could be very close to the barrel if not coming into contact with it. Have any of you guys had experience with this combination ???

I don't want to spend $200 on a set of rings, $40 to import them to the UK only to find that they don't fit.

I have a set of the Badger 1" USMC on my 7WSM holding a Schmidt PMII 12.5-50. The objective(56mm) clears the barrel easily. However, I had to sand the Butler Creek scope cap with my dremel tool for it to clear the barrel. It works just fine.

Re: Mounts for my Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25 x 56.

I chosed Tikka T3 because of a few reasons.
First it comes in 6,5x55, and that is a tremendous long range cartridge.
Secondly its shoots extremely well, problably most accurate standard rifle ever.
Third.I could mount it in a TRG chassis.
Forth. It comes with an integral scopemounting rail.

I find the integral rail as very important, as its a few problems gone.
I don't want a picatinny rail attached to the reciver, I want a direct mount.

So I mount my own TRG mount on the T3, only modification that I have to do is to lower the ejectionport as it's missplaced today. Here is a hensoldt 6-24x72 scope mounted on the T3, in extra high mount.

Tilt is included in the mount, mount is made out of one piece and here is no unnecesarry screws or metal pieces.

Re: Mounts for my Schmidt and Bender PMII 5-25 x 56.

I recently mounted a S&B 5-25x PMII on a Sako TRG in the Spuhr mount. Considering the Spuhr takes the place of the rings and the base and also includes a bubble level, it's actually pretty cost effective. I couldn't be happier the Spuhr.

On a side note, the Spuhr looks pretty cool. However, IMHO looks should have nothing to do with choosing a mount.

Håkan - How do you go about lowering the ejection port? If machining is required, can you post measurements as to what and how much needs to be cut?

Ranger1183

I lowered the ejectionport by 1/10" (2,5mm) on the outside, about in 15 degrees angle.
I would have done this modification regardless of mount, as I can't see any reason in the world why the brass should hit the ejectionport.

I was extremely happy to find out that the TRG mount solution works, as the whole idea aboth the sandwish solution with stacking picatinny rails above another rail really is just foolish.
