I may be moving in to a new state within the next 12 months. Suppressors are legal here and where I am moving to. What happens if I have to move and my paperwork is still pending? Does original dealer transfer to new instate dealer and then I take possession?

Also are there any problems with driving through Illinois with a can? Not plan on stopping even for for food but you never know what comes up. As long as it says locked up I should be good right.

Re: Moving to a different state questions

I believe traveling across state lines is OK with a suppressor, but not OK with a SBR or MG. There is a special form (5523 or something like that) that you fill out and submit to the ATF notifying them of transporting the other items. Others may know more on this than me.

+1 for calling the ATF.

Not to pick on Illinois...BUT... know a guy who had a carry conceal license in Oklahoma. Drove up to Illinois to buy a trailer. On his way back got pulled over and did exactly what he was told to do in Oklahoma while carrying and having law enforcement contact. He is now on felony interstate supervision out of Illinois and can never carry a firearm again. Not trying to discourage you from avoiding the communistically run state of Illinois but......

If your paperwork is still pending after 12 months, there is something wrong and you have other problems.

It's astonishing to me that someone would carry a loaded concealed gun out of state without being sure of the law. We don't have national carry. It's a shame this guy didn't know that. It's even more of a shame that we don't have national carry.

Your friend screwed up by crossing a state line without knowing the state law. In no way am I defending the shitty state if IL but you have to know the law. I spend a good amount of my time out of state with a CCW but as I approach the IL state line I pull over and put it away in a case unloaded as required. My advice is to stay away from this anti 2nd admendmant state and live free.

WOW- this seems brilliantly obvious. If he can't figure this out maybe he shouldn't have been carrying in the first place- at all.
