What is the best way to move my suppressor to Alaska?
Even if I take the ferry I will still have to cross into Canadian territory which is a "nogo" from my understanding. Could I mail the supressor to myself to get around this?
I'm just trying to figure out the best way to get it up north with me.

    Thanks

Just that. He puts his name and address of where he's going and mails it out. I did that frequently when I was away from home. Just make sure you beat the package there.

Is there anything specific I need to do in order to ship it?
I know that I need to inform ATF of the adress change. What carriers should I go through?
This is my first suppressor so I don't want to screw it up!

I was almost thinking about having it shipped with my household goods?

The easiest way to find out is call the ATF. I have moved twice and have SBR's and cans. I had the same type of questions although I was transporting them myself. They were very helpful and never had any issues about getting my questions answered.

I think *my interpretation of ATF's legal garbage* is that if your current state, and your arrival state, are a suppressor friendly state, then the route doesnt matter.

However, since canada is thrown into the mix, i'm not sure.

Best give them a call on monday,

Me however, being the horrible gun owner that I am, would just "accidentally" the suppressor into alaska when you drive...

forgiveness before permission, I love that one.

silencers and aows do not need form 5320.20 done before they cross state lines. I have mailed machinegun to AK via the post office no problem. I would mail it to my new address. Once settled you can let the BATFE know it is relocated.

not to get off topic, but while i have at least a few guys on here that are in alaska, how big of a pain is it to get a can up here? in NC where i just PCS'd from it was almost impossible to get one.

</div></div> Oh! and +1 ON THAT, let the ATF know your moving, let the military do the dirty work for you. just make absolutely sure that you have them put the surpressor on your orders, suppressor's serial# is correct on said orders, make sure they label everything as it is. (dont let them lable the can as a flash hider or what not) and you should be good to go, no mailing it to yourself and hoping it doesn't get caught up in customs, or lost or anything.

I really very strongly advise against this. Make sure everything is correct before you cross into Canada. Canadian customs takes a joke as good as our ATF does, and you could be relieved of your duties in the US military.

I know Canadian customs are pretty proficient at their job!
I'll call ATF and seek some guidance. I could always fly down for my AR's and Suppressor and then fly them back up but that isn't very cheap.

Re: Moving with a suppressor to Alaska???

    OP,

Easiest way to get your can up here is the same way I would get my weapons here...

When movers come to get your stuff and document all your weapons, I open up my gun cases one at a time with one of the movers and document all the serial numbers, then lock the case with a combo or pad lock. Same deal with the can. Then I take all the cases and stick them in my Gun safe, lock the safe and then let the movers load it on the truck. You get a copy of everything documented. I'm sure the moving company does not want to deal with an investigation by the ATF should they just happen to lose your weapons and your can.

Spoke with Andrew Ashton at the ATF and he agreed that this would be the easiest thing to do, rather than drive accross the country and through Canada with a NFA item.

There are other ways to do it, you could have someone ship it to you once you get settled, but I'd just as soon have the Movers take it...It's insured and if they lose your weapons, they'll be in some trouble for sure...
