I know there are a million threads about this rifle, but I just bought one and I am one happy fellow. Before all the FN and the ar10 guys jump on me let me just say. Yes I know it is proprietary, and expensive, and I also know it is an H&K.

I did not buy it so I could have a rifle like everyone else has or buy the cheapest acc for it. I bought it because it is different. I held one in my hands 3-4 months ago and no matter what I did I could not get it out of my mind. It is one finely crafted rifle. Yeah I am an HK fanboy if you want to label it. My USP .45 Compact and My SL8 both gave me the same feeling when I bought them.

The SL8 and its single stack 10 mag I wish they were double 20's or 30's but I am not running around bagdad with it I am driving nails at the range. And it will drive nails.

Back to the MR762, So right now I have a naked rifle and am getting ready to do the Glass thing. Its gonna be a S&B 5-25x56 with the H2CMR, GDI or a Spuhr mount. Yes I know its a bit much Glass but the price is too close to the 4-12X50 to not get the best. Atlas Bi-pod and Addmount flip caps will be forthcoming also.

    Any input will be appreciated.

Lowlight (Frank) thanks for having me nice place.

Congratulations man ! I'm envious. I was able to see my first one last week and the only reason I don't have it right now is because I've gotta redirect that 4 Gs to something else and scope out the 7 LRM once it's finished. It def made my short list though. Please get some pics up and let all of the HK haters here know how it shoots. :)

Also, please make a video where you emerge from a body of water like Rambo and start shooting your rifle :)

I LOVE these rifles but can't justify the price tag personally when I would rather have a GAP rifle for that price.

BUT...I couldn't emerge from a body of water shooting like Rambo with a GAP-10 like you could with the H&K....

And you have the BEST justification for getting that rifle. YOU WANTED IT. YOU LOVE IT. No other justification needed! Get what YOU want. Just remember to post some sexy pictures of it!

how does it drive nails without glass on it, does it shoot them.

Whenever someone strives for perfection and spends the time and money to make their product a little bit better. That product will command a premium and rightly so.

The last thing I see myself doing, is taking my new rifle and jumping in a lake with it. :D

    I'll work on the pics.

You mean I am not supposed to use it as a hammer? :)

The nail driving was being done with the SL8.

I read on the net that H&K hates me but they love building rifles. It works out ok for me then because I did not buy their love...I bought their rifle. And I can see the love that went into it.

I shot a friends MR 762. Seemed like a nice rifle. He had some sort of leupy on top with a red dot, MK6 possibly I wasnt paying attention. The scope took away from my noticing the rifle as I thought the eyebox weird.

My LMT MWS has a S&B 5-25 H2CMR. I was firing that just prior to hopping on his HK which is likely why I was having issues with his scope. The S&B is an aluminum baseball bat but it really is nice for setting in place range shooting.

I Love H&K rifles and pistols myself. I was going to go with the H&K Mr 7.62 and HK MR556 for my Ar's but i got such a great deal on my LMT MWS at 2299.00 before all the gun hype last year. I also built 2 nice AR's instead of the MR556 but i can tell you i still dream of those HK rifles all the time. now that the MR556 is back down to 2600 dollars i might have to get one of those in a couple of months. Please show us some pictures of her now and after you dress her out.

Here is my MR 762 before I switched scopes from a leupold Mk 6 FFP Mk 1-6X20 scope. With the Mk 6 1-6 scope I was getting about 1 moa 5 shot groups. When I switched to a Bushnell G2DMR FFP 3-5-21X50 scope groups dropped significantly.

Here's the first 2 5 shoot 100 yard groups I shot after the scope swap. it has taken me a while to get use to the less than ideal trigger but since the initial targets posted here most groups have been in the 0.5 to 0.6 moa range. It is the softest shooting 308 semi i have. I am sure you will enjoy you new toy.

Please tell me were you can find an MR 556 for $2600. At that price I would be interested in getting one.
    TIA

Thanks and I can't wait to make some holes in some paper.

Ordered an S&B with a spuhr today, and some 20 rd mags as well. Just need the bi-pod and flip caps and some time and I will see what this rifle can do.

Does it have the fluted chamber like some other HK's?

Samnev i check Gunbroker and Here and other sites several times a day for gun parts and guns . The MR556 comes up on GB often at 2600 to 2700 ish a lot to be honest. Now that the gun scare is over they just are not selling like they did before.

Does it have the fluted chamber like some other HK's?

My first instinct is to say no it does not, but truly I do not know.

It is the first time I have seen a manufacturer say in their manual that either .308 or 7.62 is approved for use. This may be common but its is the first time I have seen it.

Here it is in all its nakedness. New clothes in route.

With the S&B 5-25x56 with the H2CMR and a Spuhr mount it is going to be a great shooter. I wish I could afford that scope.

Been saving for a while. I don't buy a lot of firearms but I try to get quality when I do.

I do think I may have fractured the budget a bit on this one but....................:)

Pic as promised. 20 rd magazines in the mail. The S&B came wearing Butler Creek flip caps. I have aadmount caps en-route also.
Are the caps just something Mile High throws in? If so thanks Melissa (shes a keeper bossman). Iron folding sights and a sling and she will be ready for the prom. :)

Really nice looking stick. You will be very happy you went with the Atlas bipod. I really like the Atlas on my MR762. I had to swallow hard at the price of my 4 20 round mags.

Thanks, and the atlas is well built. The 20 rounders came today in the mail, I bought four at HK specialist for 69 each. still pricey but the best price I found and they have em. I just ordered four more before they run out.

As usual HK gets a 10 in the aesthetics department. They make some good looking firearms.

Yes they do and I want to be sure and keep it quality. I am more of a practical than tacticool kind of guy.

What kind of ammo you guys running in it?

    Everyday ammo?

    Match ammo?

Have you found any performance/match ammo it seems to like in particular?

That's a badass rifle!!! Is there any other handguard lenght options or after market options (although I would hate to replace something on an HK with aftermarket, except maybe the trigger)

I am using my hand loads in my MR762 that are tailored for my AIAW. 168 grain SMK's, IMR 4895. In Lapua brass for my AIAW and Winchester or Lake City In my H&K MR 762. Brass is sorted by type and each round is hand weighed.

    Beautiful!

I also use an ATLAS on mine. I love your optics selection. I use a Spuhr mount on mine but different version along with my USO SN-3. I would love to buy an S&B at some point but have tired my wife's patience with this purchase. I just received my Geissele trigger as well. Hope to install and try out this week. The trigger is the only weak point on the MR762.

    BR,

The only ammo I've currently shot from mine is 147g M80 ball and some Sierra 175g Match King hand loads.

It loved them both from an accuracy and reliability stand point. I've been doing a lot of loading over the winter and will have data on these if it ever warms up. (Using variations of I4064 - Varget - I4895 depending on the weight of the bullet.)

    150g Hornady Soft Points
    150g Hornady Spire Points
    150g Sierra Match Kings
    155g Hornady A-Max
    165g Sierra Match Kings
    168g Sierra Match Kings
    168g Hornady A-Max
    175g Sierra Match Kings
    178g Hornady A-Max

ETA: I see you're the same FS1 over on HKpro, so samnev and I repeating ourselves! Sorry bout that......

Very nice looking set up. I am currently setting my Mr762 up. I am going with the Kahles k3-12 with MSR reticle and the one piece Era-Tac 20 MOA mount.

You sir have exquisite taste. If I had the cash flow that is the exact set up I have dreamed of.

    Thanks Gents.

I cant wait to heat this thing up a bit. I almost bought the geissele trigger, but I figured I will try the thing before dropping another 500 on the trig.

Do you guys use the break free exclusive for lube or have you ever tried the NRA milcomm tw25b grease or the mc2000 oil.

I have been using Break Free most of the time. But I have also used LSA without any problems.

I have always use MPro products. Start with Hoppes 9 to clean the bore followed by MPro cleaner followed and lubricant.

I finally popped its cherry and got to the range, I really like this rifle. First shot was 25 yards hit the bottom of the 2x2 cardboard target was on. I was 8 mils low adjusted second shot was on target. Then I took her to a hundred yards a few minor tweaks and it was zeroed. Went way quicker than I thought because I did not bore sight it.

    Fired
20 Lapua Scenar 167 gr (zeroed with this)
    20 Win Match 168 gr
20 Rem Prem Accutip 165 gr
20 Horady Tap FPT 155 gr

The Lapua and Win Match I think shot the best. My ammo was varied I wanted to try different rounds and was pretty much limited to what I could find. My goal was to get the rifle zeroed and try and get a feel for it. I did that, now I need to take a trip and find a place to stretch its legs. I want to know how far I can take this 16.5 inch barrel.

She is a real soft shooter, I was expecting more much recoil. The scope is beyond description, its everything I hoped it to be. Makes seeing where the shot went very easy too.

Looking forward to see what kind of groups you get once you get your loads tuned in. I'm sure you will be very happy. I agree, it's the softest shooting of all my 308 semi's.

I see you are running a can. Did you install an adjustable GB to run the can? if not are you over gassed? Thinking about trying my TBAC 7 on mine. Any input appreciated.

This setup proved to be over gassed and did not work out. As a matter of fact, the inertia of the BGC absolutely destroyed a couple of cases and even knocked the primers out. It was a shit show! I'm thinking about ordering an OSS suppressor and hoping that will take care of the problem. Expensive gamble though.

An OSS can works perfect on the MR762.

That's great news - thanks! Definitely going to purchase one. Glad I purchased a $15 thread adapter instead of a $75 HK threaded ASR. That gun does NOT like to be over gassed and will tell you so when you do...

This is how you do it. Since this photo was taken I attached an OSS 762 TI on the end of it. Sick accurate.

Finally got an OSS 762 TI and wow. SUPER quiet and even more accurate than without. This is the holy grail of gas piston rifles.

You mean like this? MR762 wS&B 5-20 on a SPUHR, Atlas and OSS 762 Ti. Effing beast...
