New to SH and I need some help. Took the new MRAD out today and my elevation was way off. I shot it last week and was dead on from 100 out to 350 yards. Today the first shot I took was at 494 yards and my ballistic calculator, Shooter, had me come up 8.8 MOA, round went several feet over the target. So I go into Shooter, change the sight height and recalculate, says to come up 7.7 MOA. I squeeze off another round and the same thing happens, this time I take down a tree limb. I decide to keep coming down on the elevation, take a shot, move down, take a shot, until I get to 5.5 MOA and still above the target. Just for experiment sake I take a shot at 690 yards at 5.5 MOA up and the round goes over the target again! Last shot of the day I hold a MIL low on the target at 714 yards and the round goes a foot over the target, still at 5.5 MOA. I have not chronographed the round yet, I’m sure the velocity is different than what is listed on the box but not enough to set it off by as much as I was experiencing. The Barrett has a 24.5 inch barrel, Leupold 6.5-20X50 first focal plane scope, 300 grain Lapua cartridges. I will be purchasing some new rings but the scope mount isn’t loose, my guess is the scope didn’t like it being cold (50F). Given this information is there a reason that the round would behave in such a manner? Any help would be appreciated.
