I seems pretty clear that some muzzle brakes may change the POI significantly. I can test this easily enough at the range. What about velocity - I would prefer not to have to purchase a chrono at this time. It is in the future as I load more. If enough of you report no apprecible change, then I can put this off for now and hopefully Santa might bring one. If there is a significant (10 fps or more) change, then Santa may need to get here early. Thanks

Re: Muzzle Brakes and velocity change

10 fps is not a 'signifigant change', I'm not actually sure how one would go about measuring a 10 fps change when the nominally available instruments have a larger error range than that.

In any event, muzzle breaks do not produce much change in MV, even most suppressors produce little if any boost.

Re: Muzzle Brakes and velocity change

I pulled the Ben Cooley Comp off my AR with 20" Sabre Defense barrel yesterday and ran some tests. With brake off, I had a significant POI shift, lost about 30fps, and my SD shrank considerably. I would point out that the Cooley Comp is fairly heavy relative to barrel weight, so I anticipated POI shift.
