Muzzle Brakes

Re: Muzzle Brakes

Couple of friends have the JP Bennie Cooley brake and they are outstanding. I wanted something a little sleeker so I'm having a Holland installed as we speak so lets see if it compares.

Re: Muzzle Brakes

I had a BO FTE installed on my LTR and found accuracy was good along with recoil reduction. Installed an Ops Inc on an AAC-SD and groups opened up by about 50% or more, recoil reduction was alright. Waiting for an AAC Blackout MB to see if it's the threads on the barrel or the brake. Have a Surefire on a 5R that needs to be tested. Also have a Surefire on a .223 LTR with good accuracy and WHAT recoil? Anyway, that's the extent of my experience with muzzle brakes so far.

Technique

I'm not a big guy and I shoot a fairly light 20" barreled 308 and once a friend showed me some recoil management techniques it made a world of difference.

You could go with the brakeout which is a muzzle break and a flashhider all in one package.

Re: Muzzle Brakes

Badger Thruster. They are cheap, they work, and they are slim. The RAD brake looks great as well with the same attibutes as the badger but with the addition of a pimch style attachment for easy removal. I can't recall what the RAD costs though.

Re: Muzzle Brakes

Mark at Short Action Customs threaded 2 rifles (260 Rem and 264 LBC AR) for me and installed APA Little Bastard brakes. Mark did a fantastic job. Neither of these rifles really needed brakes, but recoil now is non existent on both. The .264 LBC has a bull barrel and Mark contoured the brake to match the barrel profile. You have to look very close to see where the barrel ends and the brake begins.

Mark built my buddy's rifle and also profiled the little bastard on it. After cerakote, you *cant* see the seem. Also, the rifle is an absolute hammer. We're talking .400" hole 10 shot groups @200yd (308win).

The brake itself is very effective - both at mitigating recoil and also at blowing spent Varget into your sinuses at 250mph if your next to it. It earns its name.

Re: Muzzle Brakes

I recently got a new OBR 7.62 with a basic A2 flash hider on the 20" barrel. The first time I took it out, it was jumping around pretty good on me, making follow-up shots a real challenge. I was more interested in stopping the muzzle jump than fighting recoil, but I will admit it might be more fun to play with if the kick was tamed a little. (I'm no AR expert. This was my first .308 semi-auto other than two heavy M1As.)

After asking around on a LaRue forum, I ordered an SJC Titan ($100 from LaRue). I'll be mounting and trying it out this weekend and will report back in a couple days. In the meantime, I found this clip: LINK

ETA: Sorry. I forgot this was the bolt gun topic.

Re: Muzzle Brakes

To the OP ,I put the same brake on my FN SPR 20inch HB and yes it does reduce the recoil enough to make it worthwhile. Also the AAC brakes are very nice get one from Midway $95.00 and a couple other things ,then you can use the Midway promo code #1091175 for a $10.00 discount.
