What is the best crown for a brake? 11 degree or recessed hunter.

Depends on a lot of things, but normally I cut them 11 degree when installing a brake. No need for a recess the brake protects the crown. Hell I’ve cut them flat and threaded for a brake and never noticed any issues.

I agree with Danny 1788 - got in the habit of cutting 11* crowns when I started, and that's my default method - unless a customer asks for something else. Most of my rifles with custom bbls have TBAC CB or flashhiders on them, and they all have 11* crowns - no issues that I can see...

honestly thats what i do....face them flat, then use a brass lap with compound to break the edge....works fine.

ive not found any evidence that one type of crown is any more accurate than any other....

What is a brass lap? I've heard of using a brass round headed screw and valve lapping compound.

The front of the brake or surpressor actually becomes your crown. Use a quality brake/surpressor and you'll have no issues. The concentricity of the crowns is what matters most.
