muzzle velocity for .308

was looking around and playing with the ballistics calculator and just kinda wondering what is your personal max muz veloc you have or do you use in a .308 bolt gun.


this is not to gain info for a load i am working on just kinda got me thinking.


max velocity you have found to be accurate. i am not looking for your load or setup just velocity

Using some 168 grain A-Max's in a 26" barrel I get 2780...my 175 SMK's are 2700. I don't load for velocity...I load for accuracy and that's just where my load sits at. I have a suppressor coming and I'll probably cut several inches off the barrel and I'll have to rework my loads...so we will see what that brings.

+1 FOR B2,I agree 100%, I also load for accuracy.What's the use of getting a very high speed, and can't hit the broadside of the barn? Just my opinion....good reloading.

It all depends on which 308 I am using and with which bullet but...

155's (lapua and amax) 2750 and 2870
168's (smk, cc, berger vld, amax)2600, 2650, 2700
175's (smk and berger vld)2550 and 2650
180 (jlk) 2635

thanks for the info guys. I started this thread because i am at 50' sea level and trying to fig what ppl have for velocity so i can get a ROUGH idea what yardage i will go subsonic. from the looks of what i have fig. i can stay supersonic with 168 and 175 at 1k, if i stay over 2600fps, tho i will not be loading for velocity, agian just gauging what other .308 loaders are getting.
