First read the directions to the very good chrono, then shoot as many rounds as the chrono will give you an average for. As we all know an average of 3 numbers will not be as acurate as an average of 100 numbers.
CED M2 chrono. I am very happy with it. The direction is faily easy to follow. Still, it's not 100% correct. I use my ballistic software to check my MV.

This is more of where I was looking to hopefully go. I was talking to a few military friends of mine who were saying that they have a program that takes the input of their chrono'd MV and then gives them a range that is 3/4 through the supersonic flightpath and just nearing the transonic path. This is the range at which they will place a target. They then shoot and measure the difference between their POA and their POI and plug that measurement into this program. It supposedly then gives them a closer MV as well as a BC.
Am I out in left field here, or are there programs like this available? Their program is made by the military, and is only for standard issue match .308. Im hoping to find a similar program for 338 250gr lapua mag and .50 750 gr sniper elite.
