I'm curious if anyone has had their rails milled off?

If so:
1. Does the handguard feel significantly smaller?
2. What is the weight savings?
3. Would you do it again?

I look forward to your input, if you have pics I'd like to see.

1/4lb isn't a lot. It's hard for me to pay for an upper when I could mill it for free basically. Just don't want to ruin anything, cause once it's done there's no going back.

Yes, I agree a 1/4lb isn't a lot. I bet LMT still leaves the handguard area pretty thick on the milled version. It could still have weight shaved off of it.

My understanding is that the weight difference between the slick side and 1913 is maybe 1-1.5 ounces

Ya, it is a surprisingly small weight difference. I'm thinking milling a 1913 down may make it lighter than the slick side because the handguard vents are significantly larger in the 1913.

I'm going to take some measurements this evening and see if I can figure how much aluminum will come of and get an approx weight.

Depending on your use, the lightweight barrel is about 8 ounces lighter, that's a lot. If anything, lightweight barrel, and milled the slickside with larger vents.
