Hi there.
I just wanted to post some pics of my work in progress.
I wanted to build a trainer/plinker to get some additional trigger time between long range and tactical matches. In addition, my kids can enjoy shooting as well.
The action is a stock ruger, in black, that I bead blasted with the rail.
A Green Mountain 20" SS fluted barrel and a few more goodies to come!

I've got some more work to do and I have some more appropriate rings on order.
These TPS rings are from an AR platform.

What do ya think?

Re: My 10/22 build

not sure yet.
I'll let you know this week end.
It'll have different rings and a better trigger then.
The action to stock fit is OK, but not great.
I'll see how she shoots, then I'll bed her.

Re: My 10/22 build

jealous of the stock......do you currently own a rifle with a manners or mcmillan stock? how does the Boyd Tacticool handle compared to the greats?

Cross your fingers on the Green Mountain barrel. I have one that shoots pretty good. I have one that makes my bolt actions look silly! Hope you get the later.

scope rings are a little too tall in my opinion

Have you had bolt work done? If not, please buy your gun $40 worth of accuracy candy! Que is your man for this......check out:

If you don't already have a plan for the trigger upgrade:

very well respected product over at rimfirecentral.com

All around I'd be very happy with that gun. I tend to think that bedding is going to help with the stock to action fit..........Boyds doesnt seem to be all that consistent with the inletting.

Cool stick! And enjoy the time with kids!

Re: My 10/22 build

how are you going to treat the bead blasted receiver and rail? seems like rust might become an issue.

Re: My 10/22 build

Thanks for the comments.
I've got low rings on order. should be here soon.
I also have an Eagle stock pack to help with comfort and cheek weld.
I want to get it to fit me as well as my GAP rifles.

The Boyds feels like a toy compared to my A5. The fore end is not as wide not is the palm swell. The butt stock is also more narrow.
I'm not saying I don't like it, but it's not an A5, fo sure.

As for the receiver and rail, they are aluminium, and have a coat of krylon clear on them.

The whole thing may see more kylon just for fun.
