i just want to say thanks to everyone that has helped over the last 4 months answering my questions about building my rifle. i finished it on sunday, and got to shoot it for the first time in this configuration on monday.

it is not complete, but it is range ready. i need a jewel trigger and a good bipod, then i am done...for now.

anyways:
remington 5R 308 shooting FGMM 168's
20" threaded barrel (YHM suppressor in waiting)
mcree precision chassis with a 10 round mag
vortex viper pst 4-16x50 scope
badger 20 MOA rail
burris rings (lapped)

the following pic is after 20 rounds of shooting to sight in the scope and get used to the new chassis, and then 20 rounds of shooting to see what it can do. i really didn't take too much time in between shots.

thanks snipershide

Re: my 5R 308

Nice Rig, and nice start. Shoots, just like my 5R. Now ya just need a good "handload". Helped mine, alot. Well, that, and a new 32 power scope. I'm a 55 yr. old, and my eyes need a little more help, than the 16X . Can't wait to see what you'll do, when ya take your time. Did the new chasis save a lot of weight, over the molded synthetic stocks?

Re: my 5R 308

thanks guys.

the mcree chassis added weight. i didn't weigh either one separately, but the new chassis is heavier, but well balanced. it is made out of aluminum.

i wanted a DBM, and i hated the color of the original stock. i figured, why spend the $350 for DBM, then have the stock inletted and painted, when i can have it all as a bolt on for about the same amount after i sell my HS stock and bottom metal.

plus, the guy i bought the chassis from lapped the rings, and squared my scope for me.

as far as hand loads, i don't have time. i am self employed.

i didn't time myself, but i did time how long it took to shoot 2 rounds, which was between 10-15 seconds (this was after the pictured group so i could get a better understanding of how long it actually took. i did the test 4 times so i could get a good average.). BANG!, reload, get the sight picture back, breath, BANG! so i figure, it was ~5 minutes.

and with 2 10 round mags, it was quick (and expensive) to just pop in another mag with out having to reload a new mag.
