This is by far my favorite rifle, mainly because It is the most accurate Ive ever owned and to me a accurate bolt gun is alot more fun to shoot at long range than any semi.

Its a Remington 700 SPS Varmint. Chambered in .243 Win.
HS Precision Stock
Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP
TPS 20moa rail & TPS 30MM super low rings.
Most Accurate Load to date: 105gn Hornady Amax, 40gn of IMR-4350, Federal 210M Primer & Lapua Brass.

Here are a few 100yrd group.

This one is a five shot group I shot at 100yrds yesterday, the two impacts in the upper right were sighters.

The addition of this scope has greatly helped shrink my group sizes.

I'm thinking about working up a different load for this bullet. Dan Newberry recommended I go with 48.1 grains of Retumbo with a CCI250 magnum primer. He said it would out shoot my current load for sure. If I can find some Retumbo I will probably give this load a shot.

I shot some 300 yrd groups yesterday but with a 22mph cross wind they didn't turn out to great mostly about 2" - 2.5" 3 shot groups.

Re: My 700

Great looking set up congrats. I've got a question though. I'm looking into the Tps base and rings for my budget build how much clearance do you have with super lows and do you have the steel or aluminum. How do you like them?

Re: My 700

I love TPS's products. They are quality for sure. I have the steel 20 moa base and steel super low rings and I have about a 1/8" of clearance.

Would it be too much trouble to ask for a side view picture of your rifle? I'd appreciate it!

Re: My 700

Looks like a good set up. What scope were you using before this one? And how did the change(magnification?) effect your group sizes?

Re: My 700

Nice grouping....try this. Start measuring the total OD of the groups (dark circle to dark circle) then subtract your bullet diameter...you may see that your groups are a little smaller.

Thanks, I was using a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42. Going to this Viper PST was a huge step up and was very noticeable downrange. Using 24 power as close as a 100 yards is a feature I'm very happy with.

I'm planning on trying a new load right now but I cant find any Retumbo anywhere. I plan to shoot out much further in the future and really make use of this scope. So far this is the best scoped Ive owned to date.

Re: My 700

Very nice rifle, I've got a 700 in .243 That Im hoping will look as good as that someday. What do you think about the vortex viper pst? Is it a lot of scope for the money? I'm planning on buying a scope in the 1000 dollar range and that one is my favorite.

Re: My 700

Nice rig, looks like my 700VS in 223. Im very happy with my TPS rings and 20 MOA bases on my other rifles. Those AMAXs should be shooting in the 1/4moa area once you get a good load, they did in my 6mmREM. What trigger you using?
Have you looked at Sightron scopes? Was not impressed with the Vortex scope I peeked thru awhile back.
