My father-in-law and I were at a gunshow a few months ago and he bought my 6 year old son his first rifle, a Glenfield Model 15. I cut the stock down to fit him and cut some off of the front of it as well. My son picked out the stain and he and his little sister stained the stock and then I put an oil finish on it. I'm working on a sling and am going to do a little work on getting rid of some surface rust. Good intro for the little guy. The gun shoots great. We got a new replacement stock for when he gets bigger.
Hope to have the time to get him on the trigger this weekend.

Re: My boy's rifle

I was considering cutting down the replacement stock so he could have the squirrel on the full size stock but the replacement was just too nice to cut and the squirrel one was a little beat up. I'm really happy with the wood. I can't believe people put finishes on that cover up nice grain. I'm a sucker for nice grain and figure though.

Re: My boy's rifle

It was wet and muddy today so no trigger time. Maybe next weekend.

I was looking at the cricketts and chipmunks and other smaller stocked guns but with this one he'll be able to put the full size stock on it when he gets older and still shoot it. Then he'll have the short stock for his kids.
