The amount of money that walked away at yard sales in GI Joe and Star Wars toys when I outgrew them is absolutely insane.
I had literally almost everything GI Joe. The elusive aircraft carrier, that I literally kept bringing up in conversations with my parents and grandparents never showed up. I found out years later than my grandparents sent my mom the $100 (big money back then especially for a toy) one year and my mom was on her way to buy it when she realized that it was 7 feet long. I think the thing that fucked me out of it was the marketing dumb shits literally had a graphic on the box advertising how fucking huge it was.
I ended up with either the Mobile Command Center or the COBRA Terrordrome that year instead.
That was right up there as the day when my mom decided that she was going to buy us a Nintendo finally with the money my brother and I had saved and put together for one. This is back when you still had to go to the mall to buy basically anything. The excitement was insane. Finally, a video game at home! So what does she do? Does she hurry to the mall, get the Nintendo and bring it back to 2 kids who are both having nonstop adrenaline fits due to the anticipation and excitement? Oh no.
Instead, she goes to the mall to then 'look around' for like 5 hours.
