After checking her zero yesterday,http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1389945#Post1389945
Shayla went out today and filled her doe tag. This is her 7th deer but her first with her 6.5x47Lapua.
Shot was 253 yards, prone off a
Harris bi-pod. Rifle built by Rbros rifles: LH SA Rem 700 Rock 8 twist, NXS 3.5x15 MLR, 140 Nosler partition over 40 grains of Hunter.

That must be the big girl version of what my 4 year old has... Congrats to both of you! I hope my hunting partner hangs in there with me as long as yours has, I'm looking forward to the memories!

Jim,

Congradulations on the good hunt!

I like the pictures, especially from a Hunter's Ed. Instructor's point of view. Very tasteful.

Awesome post, and glad to see that she already filled her tag that fast. You look DANG proud in that last photo, which you should be. Thanks for sharing that with us and all you do for the shooting community.

Nice work and damn that was quick from zero'ing to filling her tag.

I know everyone here is probably thinking it but how old is your daughter and how long have you had her shooting.

Re: My daughter gets her first kill with the 6.5x47 L

Congratulation to her on the harvest of a fine doe with a great rifle. And to you Sir for spending the time with her, developing her interest in shooting and enjoying the outdoors. The kids grow up so fast these days.

Re: My daughter gets her first kill with the 6.5x47 L

I just built a rifle in this caliber for my sons for deer hunting. Your daughter, while older, looks about the same size as my oldest. He is about 5'2" and 110 at 12 years old. I have shot 139 grain scenars out of my Scalpel the last few years and 2830fps is a sweet spot for accuracy. Not too much recoil and he seems to handle it well.
Have you chronographed the loads at different temps to see how Hunter does across the spread? I am in the deep south so we never get really cold weather, maybe down to 30 sometimes. From mid sixties up to the eighties I see little difference with RL-15. At 90 to 100 degrees I get about 25fps more velocity. I don't think it is linear and I wondered about Hunter. Varget varies very little but I got to use up the RL-15 before I think of changing.

Oh and tell your little girl we are all impressed with her rifle skills.

that rocks Jim, I know what it's like as I've had both my daughters in the woods with me since they were splashing mud puddles on the way to the stands!!!

Hi this is Jim the Plumber's daughter... I wanted to thank you for your post and your compliments. However, I felt the need to correct one small thing... I am 22 years old... not a little girl anymore (mean this the most respectful way possible :))

Thank you again and I am so happy that you have involved your family in such a wonderful sport!

Now I wish people would mistake me for being four years younger. We can't win: growing up sucks.

I too, thought you were younger. Mostly because I see girls at my son's (whos 13) school who could pass for way older. I also thought that your dad would need the rifle to scare the boys away when they came knockin.

Congrats. Nice deer. Nice that you and your Dad spend that kind of quality time together.

My daughters are now 24 and 26, and recently married both of them!! Although neither of my new son-in laws are hunters, both the girls have told me "Daddy, don't worry when you're too old to put meat on the table we'll pick up the slack" Youngest is in middle of CPA exam and can't wait to finish so she can get in the woods again.

Cherish this time with your Dad, Cause I know first hand he is cherishing every minute of it with you!!!

You definitely look like the proud papa there, as you should. The equipment definitely looks like it fits here. High quality gun and optics with a little flare. Nice job.

Re: My daughter gets her first kill with the 6.5x47 L

Congrats to you on the deer... I look forward to the day I can take my daughter in to the woods for her first hunt. She does well with the .22 she has now.

Jim, you've raised a fine young lady there. Congrats to you sir...

I have 3 kids with the youngest being 5months old... I look forward to may years in the great outdoors with them.
