I didn't have the guts to spray down my remmy or savage rifle yet but decided the old ruger was in for a face lift. Decided it was the best one anyways since I keep it out in the elements and predator hunt with it. I decided to go with a brush type pattern since I hunt on the ground alot with it.

It's a ruger Hawkeye with a nikon buckmasters mounted. I will post pics as soon as I finish. Wish me luck, haha

Re: My first attempt at camo painting

Good luck, I just did the same with a pellet rifle, didn't want to have my first try on my 700. Posted pictures up in another painting thread on here .
I think you'll find out it's not as hard or "scary" as you might think. Mine turned out fairly well, I think.

Re: My first attempt at camo painting

Thanks to all the info on here this is what I've got so far. Went with a Brown/Tan with a shadow of dark flat green to match the Grass and pine straw since most of my hunting area is mostly pines.

Pictures are not great, for some reason my camera takes crappy pic's inside the house. I'll have some better one's after sealing it with some clear and going outside with it tomorrow maybe.

Thanks again to snipershide and all the wise people on this board that have posted a step by step for this! All opinions are welcome. Just take it easy on me....

Re: My first attempt at camo painting

very nice paint. Now do yourself a favor and take the bipod off. The savage tuperware stock can't handle a bipod and I will bet money when you put weight forward like you're suppose you your stock bows and hits the barrel. Look up my thread on stiffening the forarm or just run a bean bag directly under or just infront of the front action screw. Believe me I learned the hard way.

Good luck,
Merritt

Here's a few pictures from outside & one of it in action. Shooting 110 gr. v max, going to be devastating on some yotes.

rosberry, it's a ruger but the stock on this one is pretty soft also. Not meant to be a match gun just hunting but thanks for the heads up!

Now my buddy is wanting me to give the savage a makeover beside mine.

Re: My first attempt at camo painting

whoops you're right. I just saw the forearm and made an assumption. I did work on a ruger once. It was the same model you have in 270. The forearm was a bit stiffer but not much. I floated his barrel out quite a bit and it helped him alot.

That savage next to yours could definately benefit from some color

. Once mine gets a new barrel my action, barrel, base, and rings are going green.

Good luck,
Merritt

Did the same to mine, Ruger is notorious about having the stock and barrel tight! It went from a scatter gun to around MOA with every load i've tried in it. This is BY FAR the most accurate load i've had in it though.

Thanks for all the comments fellas.
