This is my sons 1911 the guy who had it previously had some pretty shoddy things done to it but the bones of this Springfield are good the slide is nice and tight. most of the gun is stock but he had a beaver tail on there that looked like it was installed with a hammer and a chainsaw the trigger was stock but it looked like he had gone crazy with some stones on the sears so I replaced the actual trigger with an STI and I replaced and fitted the a new Smith & Alexander .220 fitting radius beavertail. Unfortunately I did not take photos of the process. I'm sure most of you are familiar with the process. The radius jig mad it easy as long as you take your time..

I have not blended it all in and polished it yet and I need to polish the contact point on the back of the beaver tail because its not properly disengaging when the trigger is cocked. I'll take care of that tomorrow before I blend every thing... next I will replace all the sprigs and sears. I was thinking that I would be able to buy the proper jigs and stone the sears my self but after seeing what was done to them that is out of the question

next is to fit a new barrel I would like to try to do a bull barrel in it but I need to do a lot more reading and research on that before I attempt it

this is what I took off of it you can see what looks like hammer marks on the inside of it.. those marks are on bothe sides of it and this thing was loose in there. It rattled around in there bad!! now no more rattling around

I'm so envious of you all that have the balls to do that on a $1k pistol(replacement value)!! It's truly inspirational! But, Eli Polite - like you said, take the time, don't treat it like it had to be done yesterday. thanks for sharing!

Some of the best advice I ever got relating to working on guns was "take your time removing metal as you can always remove more, but you can't put it back".
