I'm new here and just figured I would show my new toy. Just got my Rem. 5R rigged out Friday and put some range time on it. Never had a remmy before this one, no specific reason besides the savage has always served me well so I've always got one. But after walking into my buddies shop and holding this one I figured it was about time to try one. I love the balance and feel of this gun and the recoil is like a .243. For factory it is one of the best I've owned so far no regrets!

Shooting 178 gr A-max, Win. Brass, WLR primer, 2.840 COL (mag lenght), 44.5 grains Varget. Shot a .560" 100 yds group. Ready to do some more tweaking to see if it or me can get it any better.

Re: My first Remmy & .308

you can't go wrong with a Remington 700 and the 5R is definitely top of the heap. You can shoot that for a long time and have fun with it and if you ever want to upgrade it it is a great platform to start with. And, welcome to the Hide...lots of information on this forum to learn from.

First thing on my list! The stock one is crisp but would like it a little lighter, 2lbs. mark would be about perfect. I believe I read somewhere that the basix trigger is a better choice for thr rem. Any thoughts on this?

The 5R is my first 308 as well. I'm still looking for a load that I want to stick with but so far it shoots great. It will be a while before the barrel is shot out and by then I may know what I want next.
