So I think Im off to a good start. This target was 140yds. I was sighting in my rifle/scope. Its a stock 700SPS in 308. My scope is a Mark4 4x14 TMR reticle. I think my elevation is perfect, looks like I can tighten my left/right a little? I heard theres a way to tell by your group on what your body/shooting mechanics are doing. Anyone care to share some info?

    Good job!

Generically speaking, if ammo/rifle are "perfect", vertical stringing is breath control related, and horizontal is trigger control and/or poor NPA (natural point of aim).

It would take a really strong wind to cause 3/4 moa horizontal @ 140 yards. As in 15ish mph full value at ground level. Not common where I shoot. YMMV

Coming in under 5/8" at 140 yards would make that a sub-half MOA group.

I'd be pretty happy with that, especially if you have the rubbery Hogue stock on your SPS. That's got to be pretty close to what your rifle is currently capable of shooting.

I really didnt think the entire horizontal string was from the wind but if a 1/4 inch was, that would mean he shot a 1/2 inch 140 yard group with a factory Remington.

    I say thats a winner.

    What ammo is that?

I bet if you try Federal Gold Medal or Blackhills 168 or 175 you group will be .5 moa.Good shooting btw.

    Re: My first sub-moa group

Good shooting! I have found that horizontal stringing can sometimes be caused by inconsistent trigger control (pulling the shot).

    Re: My first sub-moa group

Just like supermag99 said. TRIGGER CONTROL. Practice squeezing the trigger straight to the rear. Horizontal groups are normally indicative of poor trigger control and vertical groups are due to breathing. Anyway, great job. Stretch it out to 300 yards and see what you come up with.
