My Groups with RL-15

Here’s what I get with 39.5g of RL15 in a standard LC case topped with a 178Amax. Weird thing is I get almost the same group with 39.5 of Varget??? Didn’t bring my chronograph I need to see how fast they are. I'm thinking maybe 2400-2500. 100yd group of course

Most of the time if I do my part. Main thing is I thought there'd be more of a spread between the two powders. The 175 SMK likes 40.5g's of Varget.

Yup. 45 grains of Varget, 175SMK and Lapua brass has long been my go to load.

My sweet spot seems to be at 44.5 grains R15 behind a 175 smk.


ETA: If I remember correctly, that puts it about 2700 FPS out of a factory barreled 700 Varmint.

That’s just it; I get almost as good as groups with the same powder measurement of varget. Everything I read usually requires more RL-15 then varget. Rifle is a Savage 10FP with a 1-10 twist Douglas barrel. Fred from sharp shooter supply put it together for me. The varget groups where .51

I'm a fan of both powders in the .308 Win.

Used RL15 for years in 308 before I switched to Varget. Now my AI AE seems to prefer RL15.
I do use RL15 in the 223AI and it has worked very well.
But, in my experience, charge weights with RL15 are usually a slight bit under Varget charges.

I can't even fit 45gr. of Varget in my LC Match Brass... Funny but true!!!

The LC brass has a bit less capacity than Lapua. I have found ball powders work very well in 308 mil spec brass.
