I decided I really needed some field time, with work over and done with at 8pm I relaxed at home then grabbed the kit and headed off to the permission.

My new fox caller a ucaller had arrived from eBay and I was looking forward to testing it out especially since it boasted a upto 100m range off the remote.

On the permission I walked up the track as per normal scanning around with the nv and little floppy lugs sat no more than 40yds away so standing with the sling wrapped around my forearm I put it down.

Finally got into position after nearly breaking my kneck climbing over some corrigated tin the owner has put up and placed out the caller, I got back to my shooting spot hit the remote and nothing walked closer and nothing... It worked fine from 100mm away but that's it ?? So that's now to go back. I grabbed the unit and fired it up without the remote put it on a rabbit in distress and then switched to a fox call. 20mins later when I was just about to shoot the caller as i was slightly miffed when I spotted the eyes.. The infamous eyes of foxy staring at me from 105yds away

I put the cross hairs smack inbetween them jewels and set for the shot controlling the adrenaline and breathing I squeezed on the exhale and lads you could of heard the crack of its head popping across the valley.

The shot had struck gold and the fox dropped in a way that you just know they won't be getting up. As I walked over there I was thinking to myself "is this the fecker that robbed my bunny the other week straight after I had just shot it or not ?"

It looked about the right size when I got up to it and a quick check showed my round had not just hit the head but had struck the exact point of aim

Once I'd dragged the fat sod back to my sniping spot I noticed another floppy ears munching away at 125 yds.
The bolt wa cycled and the round released once I was happy that I had the breathing/ trigger control set.

Buggsy just rolled over dead and after a quick gut and hang I had reassumed my position and was hoping to get foxy no2.

Unfortunately nothing else came in so I packed up grabbed a few pics and headed for

No cuts this time and I feel seriously better for it but now I have to sort out getting either a better caller or at least my funds back

So on a hole a good night and one I needed for defo.

Re: My last two outtings and boy did I need it

I picked up some new 22wmr rounds to test out.

40grn CCI soft point varmint as they hit hard but retain more energy down range over the Hornady vmax. After a zero session this evening when the wife kicked me out I sat at 114yds and popped a crab apple I found with the 1st shot so was rather impressed. I went for a wonder round and was texting a member on here whom I going to do a reloading course with when he said he was having a pint so I told I was out shooting lol.

I put the phone away and spotted my 1st target at 102yds away front on and i gave .7mrad for windage and went into the routine patter an squeezed on the exhale,

Target down

As I was looking over the damage to bugs head I flashed the torch my gen2 Tac around and picked out foxy laid down in the low ground. I was too far out almost 230yds so moved up constantly keeping the correct side of the wind which had got up now and was avg 7.4mph from my 8 o'clock position I got to 97yds and laid up. George cloony hadn't moved a inch and I checked and double checked everything before releasing the shot. All our quarry require respect and if you can't give them that and a humane kill then pack in is the only viable option in my opinion.

The windage was 1.2mrad of adjustment at this range.

Point of aim set and shot released . No 2 in 4 days..the 40grn round had completely shattered its skull leaving it mush. You can see the abnormal shape in the pic

So my land owner will be chuffed and it was a good test for the CCI 40grn softpoint rounds which may just sway me to them over the vmax 30grn.

Atvbr and happy hunting as always lads.

Re: My last two outtings and boy did I need it

My nv set up is very basic, nothing fancy I'm afraid but it's great for Rimmy ranges.

It's a add on which is the pulsar challenger Gs and with a few tested and tried this is the best gen1 sub £300 unit I've ever owned. The lazer is a Lir 80ap and although is no where near as clear as the pulsar 940nm laser it is good for detection out to 250yds mate. Cost of this total package with DSA £420 which isn't alot but works dame fine. The unit near a year old and I've changed the batteries twice with a lot of usage too.

I am on the look out for a new IR laser module so if any of you boys across the water have some worth looking at I'd be extremely grateful to hear about them.

Thanks for the replies gents nothing better than getting down range
