I'd been looking for an accurate semi-auto 308 for a while. Found this LR308 used locally. DPMS LR308 w/ 24" teflon coated, fluted barrel, JP trigger, otherwise pretty stock for a good price. Original owner said he'd got several 1/2" groups with it. It won't do this every time, but on my first outing I shot on 3 shot group under 1/2 MOA. 175smk w/ 44.2gr Varget. I need some more trigger time to work on consistency, but I know the rifle can place 'em close together. Scope is the Sightron SIII 10-50x60 w/ lit MOA reticle. Really nice glass.

Re: My LR308

I've had good experience with the factory LR-308 with the fatty barrel I purchased very close to when they initally came out. Its still all factory other then a JP SS trigger kit & a MIAD grip. Shoots very well. Other than the initial plastic magazine fiasco and a few occasional feeding issues with steel mags, no large complaints. It exceeds expectations in the accuracy department. V-sandbaggin the tube (cheating); 3-shot in 100yrd/.5inch is expectation, in relation to your post; from dealings with mine.

Nice purchase! From my experience, the AR-PST grip just gets in the way. I do like your barrel option vs. the impractical truck axel. Happy shootin.

Re: My LR308

Those are a good shooting semi-auto. If you have feeding problems switch to the Mag-Pull 20 rnd. they are much cheaper and solve most of the feeding issues people have. Also Midwest PX sells them in the 20 rnd or he can cut them down to 5 - 10 rnds so the mags. dont extend as far out.

Nice rifle.

But here we are again, we see the fabled Internet 3-shot group.

Three shots forming a tight cluster is nice to look at, but it is little more than an accident. After all, three shot groups do not give a true picture of the accuracy of a rifle and ammunition combination. True accuracy testing starts with 10 shot groups. That is why the US Military requires 10-shot groups for the accuracy testing of the ammunition used by our Armed Forces.

How about shooting at least (3)'3-shot groups' at the same time/point of aim and reporting those results?

Re: My LR308

kinda agree with fnbrowning up there... I have literally shot 3 shots through my FN SPR in succession that went through the same hole.. and I dont mean "close"... the SAME hole. I couldnt even tell there was more than one bullet until i was about 6 inches away.. but then again.. only the first one needs to count right

This came w/ 2 DPMS steel mags, no issues thus far.

Yah, I might switch out the grip to a hogue I have.

Peeing in my cornflakes huh? LOL. I understand it isn't a "true picture of the accuracy of the rifle." I don't think I said it was. I do, however, think it is more indicative that I might have an accurate rifle than not having any such groups the first time to the range with a rifle. I doubt I'll ever be able to shoot that well consistently, but VERY few people/semiauto rifles can.

No riser, but my upper is one of the higher models (I think there have been 3 different heights). I have Burris Signature Vees with the plastic inserts, I think they are mediums. I thought I'd have to higher with the 60mm objective, but it works perfectly. Good luck.

Did you order a DPMS upper? I've thought about getting something like the 6CM people are talking about, but maybe just buying a great barrel and building the upper myself.

Re: My LR308

I certainly don't want to "pee in (anyone's) cornflakes."

Like a new car, everyone wants to show off their new rifle, and like I said, it looks good.

As you enjoy your firearm, you will undoubtedly be working with various ammo loads (reloads or commercial) to find the most accurate combo. 10-shot groups will serve you well in your quest.

You need to know your firearm will continue to shoot accurately as the barrel heats. 10-shot groups.

You need to be confident that your firearm's accuracy is reliable and repeatable. 10-shot groups.

When you've got it all nailed down, hold hard for a string of shots and then publish the results. You will be appreciated for your efforts, and I'm sure it will add to the general knowledge here at the Hide.

Good Luck!

Re: My LR308

I have Weaver 6 hole mediums on mine, with a Weaver 3-15x50. I have about 1/4" between the BC cap and forearm. Mine has the built in extra height in the upper.

I have the same rifle, only I added a chip mccormick single stage trigger, PRS stock and the same panther style grip. I regularly shoot it at TVP out to 1000, I hit Tom's 1165 yrd target on his intimidator course. I have heard "you either get a good one, or a not so good one" I got a good one. I love the rifle but the trigger had to go. I contemplated the 260 upper but ended up having a 20 in Kreiger, JP adjustable gas block built onto a new DPMS upper reciever to cut the weight down, I stayed 308. I have a 260 bolt gun. Good luck with her and have fun. I cant say enough good things about my DPMS.
