so for the last 3 months ive been buying parts for my first long range bolt action build. i wanted a hunting rifle for anything smaller than mule deer.

i finally picked it up friday at the 1500. i had aj brown do the work on it.

specs:

stiller predator action with tac knob and base

sheilin select match 26 inch 1-8twist barrel

manners stock

rifle basix trigger

uso rings

the rifle is a 260 remington. i picked the 260 because i shoot one for f-class and building another saved me from buying 200+ dollar dies. plus i think its a great round. to me its a good mix between preformance and barrel life. plus if i ever cant find 260 brass there is always plenty of 308 brass i can neckdown.

i went with a 26 inch barrel because i could not make up my mind between 26 inch and 24 inch. i figured its easier to cut some off later than to add some later. its a #5contour (light varmint)

the reason i say its almost complete is after i got it in my hands i decided to get a badger dm system that uses ai mags. also i need a stock pack to give me a little higher comb for the optic im eventually going to use.

for now i have a falcon menace 5.5-25x50 scope. i wanted to try ffp and see if i like it, before spending 2000+on a scope. the falcon was less than 500 bucks. it will defintally not be a permanate scope. ill either decide i like ffp and get a uso/s&b, of decide i dont like ffp and get another nightforce.

i shot it 10 times saturday. i just loaded the minimum powder charge and a few rounds to get the rifle on paper and try it out. there is no recoil at all with this rifle. i was shooting 50 yds with my scope on 8x (lowest setting on my nightforce) at a pop can. the can never left the scope even on 8x. i was shooting prone off a bipod.

right now i have my nightforce on the rifle. ill use it to do load development. once i find a load ill switch to my falcon to get my drop and longrange data.

im going to weigh the rifle tonight but im guessing it came in around 11lbs. its a little heavy for a hunting rifle but not extreamly heavy.

today im ordering my badger bottom metal and some ai mags as well as the stock pack. then the rifle will be complete.

Re: my new bolt action build complete (almost)

thats one of the nicest dedicated hunting rigs i have seen. I would be scared to take it into the field. My logic sucks. The guns that cost me the most and the most accurate are in the safe and prob never going to get outside my front door while the cheap rifles that cant shoot and the ones that have the dings from getting worked over out in the field. but back to the point, i love your rifle. congrats

Re: my new bolt action build complete (almost)

thanks. ive just always wanted to build one rifle exactly the way i wanted it, not the way a manufactor wanted it. also i dont want to spend this kind of money on a gun that i dont use so i figured i would use a hunting rifle more than anything else

Re: my new bolt action build complete (almost)

im waiting on my badger dm before i shoot it a bunch. ill be loading longer once i get that. then i will probably find out my rifle likes a big jump to the lands and the mag was not needed.

Re: my new bolt action build complete (almost)

just a update i usually dont do 3 shot groups but this was the beginning of load development so i was mainly looking for max and getting a idea of velocity.

the best group is .3 outside to outside @ 110yds so id say im close to the sweet spot
