Bought me a brand new in the box colt law enforcement 9mm
Came with a cleaning kit and two colt 32 round magazines for 960.00 including tax
Got to shoot it today and the only thing I don't like is a large spring sound when shot..... Anything I can do to lessen the spring sound

Re: My new NOISEY colt law enforcement 9mm

I think it was made during the Brady bill era and since that's not around anymore some one sold some stock they had

Me thinks you are correct. I keep a few leo/restricted receivers in the safe as novelty item. I can get 50 more bucks from ninja crowd.

Re: My new NOISEY colt law enforcement 9mm

One strange thing about this 9mm is it has the M16 hammer in it but none of the other M16 full auto parts and being new in the box from colt maybee the M16 hammers ok?
I think I'll machine the hammer claw of so it's a AR hammer

M-16 trigger parts does not an NFA device make. If there were a hole for the Auto sear then you'd have an NFA device. Leave the hammer alone.

or just permanently weld the suppressor to the barrel...

Re: My new NOISEY colt law enforcement 9mm

Well then if I ever wanted a new barrel I'd be S.O.L
With a sleeve I could machine the sleeve of and also remove the suppressor

not SOL...break the tack welds and re-weld to new barrel...

Re: My new NOISEY colt law enforcement 9mm

That's right I dident know if just a tack welds would hold up under the NFA rules

Any thoughts about the loud recoil spring sound

Only suggestion I have heard is fill it full of grease...seems messy to me though...I just live with it on my guns...

I would try a extra large tampon, that would also reduce recoil.

Re: My new NOISEY colt law enforcement 9mm

Remove the buffer and spring then put a good squeeze of super lube synthetic grease or NAPA Sil-glyde:

http://fwd4.me/052f

into the buffer tube then replace the spring and buffer. It gets rid of the twang.

Too bad it does not work on county music too.....

Zevdogs: I am curious, do you have anything in writing from FTB or NFA branch that says that is an approved 16" barrel.
As a long time CII, I was taught the barrel is the barrel and it ends where the bullet leaves it.
You do have a very nice set up there, very similar to the old Gemtech 9mm Trinity set up for a 9mm AR type.
Thanks:

Phil

Take a look at THIS .... If they can do it, then I'm pretty sure it's legal.

I know I can buy an AR1-15 at a 14 1/2 inches of barrel length with a welded flash suppressor at a total of 16 inches at cabelas

Re: My new NOISEY colt law enforcement 9mm

Or....just leave it alone as it will be worth much less as soon as you change anything on that model. Look, its a 9mm with a 16" barrel and fewer rounds than some handguns. It most valuable being left as is and quickly becomes worth-less when altered.

If you wanted something shorter and suppressed in 9mm that will do just about everything that would altered, sell it and start over.

????? By adding a 9m all stainless steel suppressor and the equivalent of a 10 inch SBR reduce the value ?? How
The stuff I do isn't a hack job and I don't think it's ever going to be for sale

If you were to cut the factory barrel to use. Personally if I was to do as you are saying Id buy an aftermarket barrel and play with itand leave the factory one alone just for collectors IF at any point in time you were to sell it.

Good idea ... I'll do it, I just sent of my form 1 for the suppressor

Re: My new NOISEY colt law enforcement 9mm

Zev, Good money after bad. You will be left with a 9mm platform that still totes around a 16+ barrel, has a rear stock that can barely get out of its own way, a receiver that is twice as fat as it needs to be and a fixed handle upper that will keep all the best optics out of reach. When the original 9mms ARs came out, they didn't have 16" barrels and were, in themselves, waiting on the gunsmiths bench to be made to really run well. It is one of a number of reasons why the MP5 did so well in that market. Kind of a mishappen rehashing that just missed the mark from the get go. I remember when the first major reworks were being done by a very talented guy Master Weaponsmith Timothy F. LaFrance of La France Specialties of San Diego, went about craft something out of the ar9s that was worth running. The bolt slam is inpart due to the extended barrel and the lack of an improved weigh and spring. What you own is pretty rare in its original FA form, and like an MP5 clone with a 16" barrel, a MAC with a16" barrel, etc. etc. not really going to make sense in a semi with a 16".

There are a good number of much more sensible 9mm platforms that would allow you to integrate the can into the system (even if you make one yourself). In the end....Good money after bad. Just enjoy what you can as it is, or screw a can on the end. But all the rest is a waste of effort imo. A good HK pistol and can will outshoot it for the distances that it is useable at. And be quiter too..

If your going to do it...

Colt 9mm setups really can make best use of a hydraulic Enidine buffer.

Re: My new NOISEY colt law enforcement 9mm

Hmm I do agree(this is semi auto by they way) but I can't stand to have a stock rifle, the after market barrel idea is probly the safest route that way I can always return it to a stock rifle
I have seen a full auto 9mm colt at a local dealer/ shooting range and like you said ... Very rare but fun to shoot
I've asked if they would ever sell and they just smiled and said no
