After some lurking and shooting mostly smaller caliber rifles and handguns I've decided to make the dive into the precision rifle world. I have the framework of my project in place, for the most part, but, I would like some input for the more experienced precision rifle guys here. Here's my plan:

Rem 700 AAC 308

AICS 1.5 or B&C Medalist A2 with the Wyatt detachable magazine assembly (Would love opinions on this decision)

Super Sniper 10x(already bought)

EGW 20 MOA base

Not sure on rings yet because of the stock situation

Harris bipod 9-13 swivel

In a few months I'll be adding the SAS SS 308 suppressor

I'm also researching where to get a new bolt handle and some trigger work done. I would like this to be done in the same place.

I've been using the Google search function on here like crazy, lately. There's a ton of great stuff on here! Anyways, that's my plan. Nobody around me stocks the AICS or the B&C so, that kind of sucks. That's why I'm having a tough time deciding. I'm also torn on the how to mount the suppressor. I think I got information overload reading up on these two subjects on here

If there's a glaring flaw that you see or you see something that could be improved upon please let me know. I know I cheaped out on the scope but, it's got good reviews here and I'd like to get everything else on the rifle and learn the mildots on the SS before I plunk down big money on the Night Force that I want. I'm basically going to be punching paper with this rifle and hopefully getting into some competitions. Thanks in advance, fellas!

The direct thread vs. QD debate.

Re: My new project....input appreciated

Quick update. Ordered the Rem 700 AAC. Decided on Badger bases and rings. Still don't know about the stock.

For the next year or so I'm not going to be rolling my own. I'm way too busy. Spare time I'd like to spend behind the rifle and shoot my other guns. Plus, I really want a can! Although, now I'm leaning toward the Cyclone or the SAS Ti.

ETA I'm not too worried about the scope for now. There's not too many places to go long distance around here. I'm going to be shooting mostly sub 500 yards. Hopefully, if I can shoot enough this spring I may get up the courage to shoot some competitions later in the year. Seems like fun and a good way to learn besides reading and trying to self correct.

Re: My new project....input appreciated

If you want to punch paper and then get into some comps, I don't think you are going the right way, now thats jmho. Looking at the cost, of the items mentioned, I might look for a quality used rifle, such as a TRG or even have some of the smiths here on the Hide build you one. Now if you are set on the items mentioned, save yourself some money and just get the SPS, when you get the bolt and trigger work done, have it threaded. As mentioned above the 6-9" brms model may be a better choice, as for EGW, keep an eye out in the for sale section for a better set of rings and bases, since they will last a lifetime. As for stocks, check around here on the Hide and see if theres a member local to you, meet up with him and get to lie behind the AI or BC stock, theres a lot of great choices out there in stocks and they are spendy. As for the SS 10X, I like them and I think they are a great scope for the money and easily sold in the future, so that a good pick. Theres lots of rifle options out there, even a Rem 700 tac target might be a better option.

"I'd spring for something like a Badger or US Optics base."

Serious question, not trying to be a smart-ass. The EGW seems very nice, is made of steel, and works. How can a Badger or another brand be that much better? They're both milled steel, right? Hopefully this is where I'm about to learn something!

I didn't know it was made out of steel. I was thinking it was some aluminum base.

Re: My new project....input appreciated

I see no glaring discrepancies in your choices.

Now, about your stock selections. You seem to have chosen the polar opposites when you consider cost.

An AICS is an 800+ stock, the B&C is a 220+ stock.

I suggest you consider splitting the difference with either a McMillan or a Manners.
You could also have a stockade stock built to your specs for about half the cost of the AICS stock.
