Ok fellas ( and Felletes) here is my very first remmy 700. She's in her infancy, so for now its all FUNCTION over FORM. Shes got a Mark4 4.5x14 (TMR) reticle, Mark4 Base, and Mark4 Rings. I got a couple Marine buddys that think they are gonna out-shoot me. Im an ex-squid so Im gearing up to have some friendly competition! Im no stranger to shooting.. But we were issued M14s, not M16s, and certainly not Bolt-Action rifles. So Im thankful to have great friends, and certainly a great forum to learn from and share my experiences with. So now on to the pics!!

very good solid platform. A couple changes that most appreciate are 1)larger bolt knob conversion, usually under $100, and 2)more comfortable stock, your options are $200-$230:Bell & Carlson medalist or take off H-S Precision 700 police, or $500-1000 for a McMillian,Manners or AICS.

HEY! I see your in Louisiana as well! Im in Forest hill. I will be offshore on the dates you posted. But I would still like to get together to shoot when I am in! I have a range already. Its good to 700-800yds.
Here is a pic of it. We should trade info!

Congrats on the new rifle. I have the same rifle and it shoots great, especially for the price. I've starting shooting F-TR matches and its great rifle to start with. Easily shoots sub-MOA @ 100 yds if I do my part, but I have the bug to make a few changes myself! There's a match this Saturday at Palo Alto if you can make it (and the rain holds off!).

Get in touch with Keith at Phoenix Custom Rifles for a bolt knob. He did mine and I love it. If you are thinking AICS 2.0 look in the accessories section in the for sale section you can get a good deal. Then call Mike from Victor and get a set of viperskins. I am almost at the end of my SPS build. Still need Atlas (in the mail from Randy at Mile High), trigger (not sure what I want yet), and a suppressor (same excuse as the trigger).

So here is my stupid question.. Whats F-TR? Im new to all this, and I dont know the terminology yet. So please have patience with me,lol.. I see your from Louisiana. Im from Forest Hill. I just moved from Opelousas. Looks like there are a few fellas from Louisiana?

    Re: My new SPS tactical

I'm just south of Baton Rouge. Louisiana is a very "shooter friendly" place to live and there seems to be alot of us here! F/TR is basically a division of NRA F Class rifle matches that you can shoot .308 or .223 off a bipod. The "TR" is Target Rifle. The matches I've started shooting at Palo Alto is 600 yards. Its a very nice run match and everyone is super helpful, great range too. This will only be my 4th match this weekend so I'm still new to it. Its very addictive and way more fun than 100 yds!

Great choice. I went with a AICS 1.5 for my AAC-SD and love it.

    Re: My new SPS tactical

Sweet looking rifle madppcs! Congrats on selecting the R700 platform. I am new to all the long range shooting and I imagine there are many of us here that are learning as well. I chose a R700 Milspec 5R as my first bolt action. I am really liking my new rifle. I do agree with MJW117 regarding a larger bolt knob from Phoenix Custom Rifles. Look them up here on the Hide. Since purchasing my R700 three months ago, I have migrated the barreled action to an AICS 2.0 stock. There are plenty of stocks to choose from but I am very happy with my AICS. Here is my rifle as it sits today:

Great choice on the SPS, I challenge anybody to find a better bolt-action for under a grand. My father just bought one exactly like yours and he couldn't be happier with the product Remington puts out. I have a standard SPS in 270 for deer hunting, but I hope to get a tactical 700 in the future for long range competition shooting.

    Re: My new SPS tactical

Good going with the SPS Tac. I have one too. I actually just got a HS Precision stock for it off a member here since the Hogue was flexing too much and contacting the left side of my barrel when I'd load the bipod. It is an accurate rifle for sure. With handloads I can get .5-.7moa groups out to 300yards if I do my part (which isn't as much as it should be lol). I'm hoping that the HS will tighten the groups even further. Have fun with your new gun.

    Re: My new SPS tactical

In reply to madppcs' question about F T/R:

That is a reference to F class matches, target rifle division. T/R is limited to .308 and .223 rifles with a bipod/sling and rear bag. Nice way to compete without laying next to someone with $10,000 worth of funky table rests and such. The distances may vary a bit, locally we have 600 and 1000 prone matches.

    Re: My new SPS tactical

Great info here guys! I did see a video on youtube about the stock making contact with the barrel with the bipod deployed. I will eventually get the AICS, so for now Ill deal with the Hogue stock. It is a pretty comfortable stock considering what it is.
On another note, how are yall liking the X-Mark trigger? From what Ive noticed is that there isnt any slop in it. Its very crisp. I havent tried to adjust it yet. (I will be shooting it today for the first time)

    Re: My new SPS tactical

Thx! Im shooting her right now. The scope adjustments are very good so far. And the rifle is shooting very consistent. So far Im extremely happy with the 700. I should be shooting 300 yds by this afternoon.

Good idea - I wish I did this, instead I got a non-adjustable HS stock. Wish I had an adjustable comb, and I someday plan on getting new bottom metal with a detachable mag. Getting the AICS 2.0 from the start probably would have been less expensive but unfortunately I couldn't fit the bill for it when I was piecing together my SPS Tac.

    Re: My new SPS tactical

Same as my first rifle I picked.up back in oct. I have around 650 rounds through it and she likes fgm 168 and 175 best. No hand loads yet. Mine came with the even cheaper stock but still averages under moa out to 300.

    Re: My new SPS tactical

I recently got this rifle in.223. I have a HS stock on the way. I got the best optics I could afford at the time. Now I am trying to decide if a trigger is something I want. I will be following this thread to see what else people suggest. I want to find out if threading the barrel and installing a break is worth it.

    Re: My new SPS tactical

I installed a Jewell trigger in mine and what a different feel! The groups at 100yds don't really show an improvement, but I believe at longer distances it should be more consistant. BTW, the trigger came set at 1 lb, its plenty light for me yeah!

    Re: My new SPS tactical

I have a Timney in mine and a Manners T4A on the way. I have had some .330 5 shot group out of mine with hand loads. It's a great rifle.

I didn't even give my factory trigger a test squeeze - as soon as I picked up my SPS Tac I pulled the stock off, then punched the trigger out for a Timney 510 adjusted as light as I could make it.

Mile High in Colorado is where I ordered my AICS. They gave me a 10% military discount. Their customer service is second to none!
