Re: my savage fcp

Holy super rings lol!! I'd get that scope down asap, but other than that it looks nice. Maybe opt for a nice set of ultralight nightforce rings and base? Badger is just as good.

Maybe look at one of the stock packs, eagle etc. Really helps to get comfortable on the rifle, and it lets you raise the comb height without having to really modify the stock in any permanent way.

Bolt lift ok? Mine was pretty heavy until I got the bearing job done.

I am sure it will shoot great.

Re: my savage fcp

Looks pretty sweet! Like 331V8 said some nightforce ultralight rings and base are pretty nice and Manners or a Mcmillan make some pretty nice stocks, or maybe a bell and carlson if you have a lighter budget, they work just as well for a little less money

How does it shoot so far?

+1 I agree with everything stated above. It doesn't look like you have a long face like the elephant man so get those rings down.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: my savage fcp

yep they are super high was the only set of rings and cheep shitty rails i could afford at the time scope sits so high i need to rest my hand on the stock and my face on my hand like kane has said he has some rings for me i just need a rail , and we will both be off the the range to sight in

thanks for all comments "updates pending"

the dude with the towel is you kane lol

Re: my savage fcp

Any stock that will fit a savage model 10 short action will fit your fcp-k but youll have to ditch the wedge on the recoil lug - but thats a good thing anyway. I ended up going with the choate tactical custom and like it a lot. Ironically, I also dumped the muzzle brake and went with a different bolt handle and a better trigger(SSS) so its hardly an fcp-k anymore, lol!

Re: my savage fcp

I got it here.
http://www.riflestock.com/catalog_page_d...No=1&sc=yes
It is best to call them and tell them what you've got because the link I sent you shows its for 4.275 action screw spacing and what you(I) have is like 4.41 spacing. Just call them and tell them you have an FCP(leave out the K - it just confuses them) and need the tactical custom with 4.41 spacing and you're good to go.

Re: my savage fcp

Relax big guy we are just giving you a little bit of crap. We all understand the budget on builds. I've been wanting a barrel for 2 years now but with me being the family's only source of income and a baby that hasn't happened to this day. We all just have to make due with what we have. On the rings you could easily go to walmart though and get some rings that would lower your scope and make it more shootable and also help your scope be more repeatable. Do yourself a favor and get ahold of a new set of rings and lock tite for christmas. Make sure your barrel and rear tang are floated and remount your stock using just a little bit of blue lock tite on the screws. Make sure you follow your owners manual on mounting your reciever. Next lock tite your scope mount to your receiver and your scope ring screws to your reciever with your scope installed in your rings.

Those are the cheapest ways to increase accuracy of your weapon. And infact it's not increasing accuracy but increasing consistancy.

Good luck,
Merritt

Re: my savage fcp

A good source for base/rings if you aren't planning on using the scope/rifle to beat someone to death with is Weaver. I have the 20 moa extended rail and med height six screw rings on my rem 700 .243 and they look and function great! About $70 US for the set on the web. They are machined alum alloy but are plenty strong unless you do the above HAHA!!

Re: my savage fcp

EGW, McMillan, Manners and Roedale Precision all ship to Australia without troubles.
Your best bet for new rings and rails is EGW, they're fast and friendly, and they will ship overe here
smile.gif
the money spent is worth it.

Where abouts are you based mate? I'm down in vic and if you're getting into the longrange shooting scene feel free to give us a bell.

Re: my savage fcp

MM, its like buying an Indian when everybody else buys a Harley, lol. it was my first centerfire, well first bolt. it was 50/50 this savage or a R700. either were gonna get worked. this way i could do a little on my own. its been fun, got me reloading and shooting

Re: my savage fcp

+1 on the EGW, I forgot about that because I haven't seen mine yet. It's at the house waiting on my return. It will be going on the Stevens 200 .308 build rifle. I am putting the Burris 30mm Tac rings on it. I am mounting a much larger/heavier scope on the .308 so I thought I would try something a little step up from the Weaver stuff (maybe??).

I think a lot of the mounting hardware is regulated just like optics and other stuff is. It's Big Sis Janet From Anotherplanet (AKA Janet Napolitano) who won't let us send any of these "dadngerous sniper type thingies" to our fellow fredom loving friends.

Re: my savage fcp

Hey. I am new the Sniper's Hide. I just got a FCP in .308. It has the threaded end for a break. Mine didn't come with the Muzzle break. Did you put that on or did your's come with it? Where did you get the extended mag? I have found one, a 9 round, but it looks different than the one you have in the pic. I am looking for parts for my build and like how you have yours. Thanks.

Re: my savage fcp

the one he has i have never seen before. i was just looking at it thinking it was a good place for a smiley face, lol. maybe its something for the aussies? what 9 round did you get? SSS? do you have it already? read up before you buy one. unless its coming from a third party, you will have issues. i have been waiting since march. others have been waiting longer than that.

Re: my savage fcp

yea i got my gun brand spanking new did you get yours second hand sounds like they kept the break to sell separate i got the mag from the same place i got the rifle it was $200 and also came with a 3 shot mag ,if your looking for the same muzzle break i have im shore you can get it direct from savage

http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/10FCPK

and yea it is a good spot for a
smile.gif
face lol

Re: my savage fcp

its a 9 shot mag and yea our price's are high as, you might find them cheaper, i just got this one because it was covenant as i ordered it with the gun

and now that i think of it it was kinda a waste of $$$ because most of the time i load single rounds and only put 9 shots in when i take the gun hunting which i don't like to do because i don't wont to knock the gun around.

i should have saved the $200 and put it towards a hunting gun because apart from the savage ,i have a 22.sterling and i would like a 222 for hunting but that's my next build
smile.gif

Re: my savage fcp

so can you get some photos of that mag? do you know who makes it? and info? is it coming from savage with the rifle? we got many threads about the lack of hi cap mags. id like to see yours

Re: my savage fcp

i like the condor outdoor line. they are sold by cheaper than dirt.com (no spaces) and are reasonable. saw one at a gun show and they are very stout. not sure if they will ship overseas. check them out. midwayusa too. they have a house brand thats nice @ $65

Re: my savage fcp

yup. i believe its condor. saw one at a gunshow. really nice thick padding. good zippers. ill get one soon. or the one from midway is nice looking too, but id like to get my hands on it

Re: my savage fcp

smile.gif

smile.gif

smile.gif

Re: my savage fcp

my everyday knife is a CRKT M16-14 and i have a love of tanto knives. Cold Steel just feels great to me. ive got a bunch in the safe. i buy for looks really. i have yet to plop down big money for a custom. but i think im going to buy a Hide Fighter from steve woods. love that look.

Re: my savage fcp

Anything by Gerber or Benchmade will be a good folder at a decent price. Plat a Tac stocks both.

http://www.platatac.com/www/182/1001127/displayproductcategory/1001284.html

~~~~~
EDIT.
Ditch the Muela mate, we broke one on a cadet camp in the q-store.
A cadet camp, in the q-store. swear i've seen $10 mitchells folders stand up to more use...
~~~~~

2nd EDIT.
If you want gear to get all 'tacticool' with, then go nuts on Plat a Tac, they'll do pretty much everything you guys want or need. They do a decent-ish drag bag, its not the best but its pretty good. Like everything here in Oz it's overpriced.
Though personally i'd look at re-stocking your Savage and all that before you go and get all weekend warrior in the back paddocks
smile.gif

good luck mate.

Re: my savage fcp

yea i just wont everything im just one of them guys that sees more green than for his own good, yea new stock for the savage is on the menu

thanks for the advise Remoah
smile.gif

i will check out that web sight asap

edit i cant get that Plat a Tac to come up says "Server not found" that makes me sad

Re: my savage fcp

trust me mate im the same, i dont earn alot but living expenses for a 19yo dont stack up to that much these days so theres alot of spare cash flying around.

google 'plat a tac' or similar, they're there.
however i'd suggest you money up for a new stock, it'll be alot more productive than a new cordura bra and undies.
