I took my 10 year old son out for some trigger time today. Our furtherest steel was 878 yds. He scored with a first round hit! He is stoked for sure. He loves driving Dads .308, He is proving to be a future precision shooter for sure.

Good job! Fathers need to take more kids shooting. That is our future. I started off as a youngster. Now in my late 30's, I like it more than ever. Started off shooting long range by myself, I found some local guys that also shot long range. Now I`m out to 2449yds. We are going to try for 2 miles this fall. (try). I noticed your in Galax,Va. I`m in Abingdon,Va. Maybe we could get together sometime. Sending you a PM.

+1. They are the future shooting generation. My 9 year old brother sat at the range today and fired 50 rounds with my AR and loved it. It's great to see the young kids at the range.

Re: My son made his furtherest hit ever today

My son just turned 22 and hangs with me on a regular basis
with a rifle and beats me at sporting clays with shotgun.
He still hasn't mastered pistol yet. I don't know if I want to teach him that, it's the last edge I have left.
Congrats to you and your son. I wish you both many happy days at the range.

Outstanding work to you and your son.
It's all about taking time with kids, being patient and making it a fun experience- hunting, fishing, shooting, whatever. Remember, these first trips are all about the kids, it ain't about you. They'll be hooked and beg you to take them again. They will worship you.

Then, when they turn 13, the hormones kick in and they get a smart mouth but they'll be back later.

Re: My son made his furtherest hit ever today

Thanks guys! He is hooked on shooting, I am guessing it won't be too long until he is asking for his own collection of rifles. My dad never had to worry about me being up to no good during hunting and fishing season and I hope I can enjoy the same piece of mind when my son grows up. I would never had dreamed of shooting at a target that far when I was his age, much less hitting it!

Re: My son made his furtherest hit ever today

I'm so glad that my father got me started shooting when I was young (5), and going to the range with him is one of the highlights whenever I get to see him anymore. That's a really neat bond and I'm sure you and your son are making memories that he'll appreciate for years to come!
