sorry for the crappy pic but i tried. Finally got rifle and glass and everything it has came together nicely i think , but I want to change a couple small things already but first the specs:

Remington 700 sps tactical
Leupold MK 4 LR/T 4.5x14x50 w illuminated TMR
Leupold MK 4 Rings
Leupold MK 4 one piece base
Harris 6-9 bipod

Picture003-1.jpg

This is my attempt a a precision/tactical rifle ie paper punching and steel maybe a deer, coyote or something as well
now the questions, I have done the dollar bill trick and the barrel is free floated but with the bipod, it will put pressure on the barrel, how much will that effect accuracy ? What are the good aftermarket stocks out there? next ammo till I change the stock and start reloading, what is some of the best ammo to run thorough it to see what this gun can do, for sighting in and regular shooting? and the suppressor Idea is still sticking with me which is the best can that I can use on the sps and my ar, aac would run me 975 with tax stamp but the yhm would cost 775 with tax stamp is it really worth the two hundred extra dollars

You really need to purchase a good stock.

If money is tight a Hs precision is a great stock. Have it skim bedded.
Hs precision stock pop up for around 200 all the time used in excellent shape

If you have a little extra dough. manners and mcmillians are top of the line. Then you have to have them pillar bedded.
A good deal on a MCM or Manners is around 400 base.

Hope this helps

Stocks- you can take a 1" dowel rod and wrap it with sandpaper and open it up to where you dont have pressure on the barrel until you upgrade stocks. But some good ones are Bell and Carlson, Choate, McMillan,Manners,AICS,McRee

Ammo- sighting in- use something close to the grain bullet you will shoot to get on paper, then switch to Federal GMM, Black Hills, Hornady, Corbon, or for a little cheaper "match" ammo HSM from snipercentral or Prvi Partizan

cans- the YHM would be just fine for your intended uses. Get YHMs 30 cal can and run it on your SPS and AR

Re: My SPS is finished for now, more ?'s though

I know that both deadly0311 and I have both run McM A5s on our SPS Tacticals with pretty good results. I've still got mine.

Re: My SPS is finished for now, more ?'s though

With the stock I would look into a Manners. Tom is a great guy who offers an excellent product. But some of the others mentioned are good choices too.

If quality ammo look at either HSM or Federal Gold Match. Both are good match grade ammunition. But remember that a rifle is like a women, each has different taste you the only way to figure them out is to take them out and spend some time with them.

On suppressors the yankee hill is just fine. I like their quick detach system personally. However in terms of a traditional threaded on type can I perfer Tactical Operations. The last can Mike made for me was excellent and tamed the noise and recoil of my 300 wby really well.

Re: My SPS is finished for now, more ?'s though

I started with the same rifle, dropped it in a Mcree Precision stock and I run the Gemtech HVT-QD. I like the 168gr. Sierra and I can provide the load data if you have someone to produce them for you.

Re: My SPS is finished for now, more ?'s though

You can not just sand that stock to get it to free float. Been there done that. The plastic just flexes too much. I couldn't and still can't afford a good stock so I took sone 1/2 inch al angle and a dremwl and fiberglass and made it stiff. If you do a search I made a thread about it.

Currently looking for a choate tactical stock to fondle before I order. Decent bang for the buck.

Re: My SPS is finished for now, more ?'s though

I went with a HS on my SPS because it was a drop in with the alum block and wait time was around 2 months, it was 7 weeks. I ordered it a day or two after getting my SPS. With a bipod on my factory SPS stock, groups all over the target.

I would also recommend upgrading to a Rifle Basix trigger. To me anyway, not including trigger time but an actual tool to improve me was the trigger upgrade.

I used American Eagle 150g for my first 300 rounds because I would spend less money working on my fundamentals. Not until I got my groups consistent with AE did I spend coin on GMM. AE would average around 1.25moa, first time out with GMM cut in half to .75 with 168g. My barrel shot best dirty. After about 500 rounds my SPS shot absolutely ridiculous.

Good luck
