Fieldcraft NASA predicts a Solar Flare. Got skills?????

Re: NASA predicts a Solar Flare. Got skills?????

It's cool CST. Thanks for backing me up. I just get the info out. If it's received as comedy, fiction, fodder or a heads up makes no matter to me. I just get the info out and wash my hands.

Thanks bud.

Don't remember the time but the telegraph was the hot item for high speed communications at the time and it was knocked out by a CME.

No big deal back then... Now, it could be ugly. </div></div>

Fiber optic cables should be fine, underground RT's (CEV's) should be fine, and properly grounded and bonded twist pair cable could possibly have a little trouble. Especially in the aerial splice closures using free breather types. If it happens it could mean a bit of work for my small contract company. Re hab splices with mini section throws should do the trick.

Smart grid works to protect power equipment. Those grids that have this system should be protected quite well from a solar flair. Smart grid opens circuts to protect equipment, such as transformers, within nanoseconds. Theres alot of Smart grid technology in place.

The telegraph melted down back then because it was open wire and had no bonding.

There's WAY more trouble than just comms & electricity in general.

Example- I talked to both a city sewage engineer and a field worker of the same trade.
Sewage systems rely on pumping stations. "Some" pumping stations have back up generators- none of which are hardened. Nor do they have check valve. What does this mean?

All the homes sitting at a lower elevation that the treatment plant become become septic tanks. Fun fun. Hope those folks have emergency pipe plugs on hand.

Just one more example of the mind boggling troubles it would cause. The list is endless.

I know the persons who engineered / designed Smart grid. Where it is in use it should work pretty well. It's already proven itself as far back as 2004, give or take, that I'm aware of. You are somewhat correct, however, there are places in America that the power utility company hasn't yet implimented the technology. A solar flair, I believe, could be a pain in the ass, but not the end of the world as we know it these days.

I'd call all the roads and interstate in a region turning into parking lots more than a pain! But I get ya. No not insurmountable by can-do folk.

Re: NASA predicts a Solar Flare. Got skills?????

It has been stated by a number of scientist & engineers that our electric grid would not be able to with stand a major solar flare Smart grid or not. The bad thing is that most of the grids are linked together from what they say, so when one goes they all go. Not saying this is true but its what I have read or seen on the spook channel.
