I have been working on getting a good stock of brass built up for my new 7/300WSM. I have been necking down Norma brass and turning the necks with a Sinclair tool. It is working okay and I am getting nice looking and precise brass but what a pain. Does anyone have any suggestions for automating the process so I can get through a bunch of brass more quickly?

1/2" keyless chuck drill with a back gear (slow speed). I don't have any size WSM cases. But it does 308, 30-06 and smaller stuff just fine. But a 300 WinMag JUST doesn't fit right because of the belt. (That's the largest case I currently own.) You don't need an adapter or shell holder. Just tighten the chuck hand tight. Be SURE you keep the mandrel of the tool well oiled. STP oil treatment does a real good job of it. That'll help keep the brass from gaulling on the mandrel.
By the way. My drill is an 18 volt, high torque 1/2" DeWalt. But most 1/2" drills will work.

Thanks Victor. I will give it a try but I am pretty sure the WSM case will be too large diameter for the 1/2" chuck. I will find out though.

On the other hand... I have a plug in type 120 volt drill with a 5/8" chuck and variable speed. I'm not sure about larger cordless types. You can search the more economical tool places like Harbor Freight and Northern and see if they have a drill that size for a reasonable price. Or I'm sure Sinclair's probably has an adapter to fit your cases in the drill. But all of the case holder adapters I have ever used were difficult to keep tight and a general pain in the butt. That's why I'm so happy with the keyless chuck / drill thing.

Goto Midwayusa.com and buy a Lee 3 jaw chuck and the drill adaptor, it will fit any sized case from .223 to 338Lapua, thats what I use to neck turn, 5 second operation per case.
