I have some time, as I just bought the M16A1 this is going on and we all know the transfers aren't coming over night at this point.

I want to have a .300BLK built to my specifications. The specs are a bit unique- I want the barrel threaded for my SAS TI Arbiter can, which is setup for 18x1.5 metric AI threads.

This upper will be a dedicated subsonic upper. I would like to go as short as possible while still retaining 100% function, as well as pairing the twist rate to the 208 AMAX's or 220 SMK's I'll be running. The bolt carrier will need to be a full auto carrier and I would prefer it to be chrome for ease of cleaning.

I would also like to have the handguard be as long as possible and cover a good portion of the suppressor. If I go with an 8" barrel, a 13" handguard would be great. The diameter of my can is 1.5", the length is 9", and the length it adds is 7.5", as it threads over a portion of the barrel. Unless the suppression of this can is less than ideal for subsonic rounds, I would like to use it.

Where do I need to go for this? The barrel threading is going to narrow down my options for sure.

Thanks,

-Bob

I was looking for advice from guys who have had one built, but if I don't get any input here I'll copy it over to there.

I hear Noveske's 300 uppers are fantastic, but I would be shocked if they would be able to thread it in AI metric threads for me. I think I am going to need a custom guy- Specialized Dynamics may be just the ticket!

Re: Need a builder for a .300 BLK upper

With the 300 BLK caliber all the components are the same as 5.56 except the barrel. With that in mind as long as you could find a smith to do your bbl you should be pretty well off. Threading a bbl shouldn't be that big of a chore for most smiths that know the platform.
As far as the other components that you listed, take your pick. If you've ever built an upper yourself you shouldn't have a problem with this. I've been kicking around the 300BLK idea as I have an SBR myself. The reason I would build is because I just built a 16" 5.56 for a friend and am in love with the Rainier Evo rail. I personally would go that route but that's me.
You'll definitely have to let us all know the route that you go with.

I might build it, for sure! Should I do my own research in gas port size etc to set it up to run subsonics suppressed, or will the smith have all that?

Re: Need a builder for a .300 BLK upper

So I've been doing some more research, and I found that the Honey Badger concept has a 6" or 6.5" barrel. Really, I would like to go that short if I can do it would compromising reliability or suppression, keeping in mind that I am only shooting subs out of this.

Anyone have any experience with a barrel that short?

Re: Need a builder for a .300 BLK upper

From my understanding and maybe the AAC R&D guy will chime in is that with the shorter barrel you have to run them suppressed. Most people are going with 8 or 9 inch barrel so it does better while firing with out a suppressor. From your post above if you plan on running the gun suppressed all the time you will have no problem.
