Need a great base

Re: Need a great base

Well, you didnt say BEST, thats good.

Many options, USO, Nightforce, Seekins, Badger Ordnance, Warne, MWG, Nightforce, TPS, i could go on. What is the intended purpose of the rifle, what type of optics do you have ? Is weight a concern ? Some bases are aluminium and some steel, some are canted and some are not. Most bases will be good enough quality wise, just more about what floats your boat and features you want.

By "non moa" I assume you mean no cant or 0 MOA...

Badger Ordnance steel bases are about a heavy duty as they get and should serve you well regardless of your particular application. You'll want Part # 306-06F. Get with Steve at Triad Tactical or any number of other vendors here that stock BO parts/accessories.

There are other mfgs that make high quality bases in 0MOA/flat styles for the 700SA that are also very well made pieces of hardware, including Seekins, USO, EGW (on a budget), etc. You'll have to chose b/w steel and alloy, but if "heavy duty" as you say is a must...stick with steel.

Good luck!

Re: Need a great base

Steel.

I have a almost mint Like new DD Ross 20moa base but I do not need that
Much. My shots are all 500 and under. So I'm looking to get rid of the DD Ross and just go with a non moa-flat base. Badger looks good. How's the Leupold?

Re: Need a great base

If your scope will zero at 100 yards with the current base why not just use it? As long as you can zero at the shortest distance you plan to shoot, having a 20 MOA base doesn't hurt at all.

Leave your setup well enough alone and stop trying to fix @#$% that is NOT broken!!

Seriously...while I understand what you are saying about not NEEDING a 20MOA base, you suffer no ill effects from keeping your current DD Ross base in place unless you are unable to get the rifle zeroed at the range you want (or the range you'll be using it the most), or you are having trouble with the scope height because of the cant, or...you get the idea. Buying a 0MOA base to replace your current canted base is just a waste of your time and money.

That was going to be my recommendation as well. They can also be used as hammers, pry bars, tire irons, and bridge girders.
