Bought a transferable m16 about a month back, which means I should have it in another 11 months, give or take. I'm shopping around for an upper for it, planning on a .300 BLK as well as a 5.56, because of ammo price and availability. This discussion is relevant to the 5.56 upper.
I tend to prefer short uppers, but nothing shorter than 10 inches because of ballistics and suppressor warranty. This is going on a full auto gun, so cyclic rate is a concern, as is cyclic rate increase suppressed. I am leaning toward an adjustable gas block gun because of this.
The two fore runners at this point are the LWRC M6A3 12.7" and Noveske switchblock 10.5"/12.5". I settled on the A3 LWRC because of the adjustable gas block, and the 12.7" because it is a mid length gas system which is supposedly softer shooting than then carbine length system on the 10.5". Obviously it should be easier to clean than the Noveske and should require less lube, both because of the piston system.
The Noveske is a conventional DI with a switchblock. The benefit being that I have read is a DI gun is softer shooting which while not an issue on semi auto 5.56 shooting I imagine comes into play full auto, and that a DI gun is quieter than a piston.
My main concerns with the piston gun is the noise and the recoil impulse on full auto, and my main concern with the DI gun is the cyclic rate and the reliability on such a short suppressed full auto gun. Any input or additional suggestions would be great!
Thanks,
-Bob
