Need a new car...

Re: Need a new car...

Thoughts on Volkswagen in general. Is it made in Mexico? Our Jetta is. A ton of parts made of plastic that should not be. Pieces of the dipstick, which break off at 30,000 miles and fall into the oil pan. A plastic shield which must be removed to change oil, attached with fasteners only designed to be used twice. We have 120,000 miles on it, I fear it will not be a car we can run to high mileage and the maintenance is EXPENSIVE.

Re: Need a new car...

I have been in the car business for 7 years and I will say this- from our experience, Volkswagen has rock solid engines and transmissions, but are subject to electrical issues that in many cases can be as expensive as a domestic cars transmission change.

Re: Need a new car...

The CC is assembled in Germany, but surely some of the parts are coming from Mexico. Unfortunately with the new government standards and fuel economy requirements parts that should be made out of metal are now being made out of plastic. However, and interestingly enough, some of those plastic parts out perform the metal parts. Weird... As for Maintenance VW is covering for I think the first 50k.
BM11, I have heard that same thing before about VW. Amazing that they can build a rock solid drive train but cant get the wires right!

I am kind of VW supporting right now as they are building a factory in Tennessee and from what I hear about to open. When other manufactures are sending jobs out, VW is bringing jobs in! Granted the profits go back to Germany, but at least my fellow brothers in TN are employed and feeding their families.

Re: Need a new car...

I considered a CC before I got my new car last year. GREAT looking car, but the interior was sort of a letdown to me. The seats were rock hard and everything that you touched was plasticky. I ended up spending more on a domestic (Lincoln MKS) and am enjoying it so far. Good luck with your car search.
