Im looking for a new optic for my m1a, im a poor college student, so my price range is around 700. I was looking at either the Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x44 and the Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 x 50mm. Which one is better? Any other suggestions would be helpfull too.

Thanks!

I have the ss 10xHD and have looked at the ss3-9. Id get the 3-9 for a m1a. Great scope. It is mil-mil. swfa is great to deal with.

+1 on SS 3x9 if you need the optics now. Otherwise the PST might be worth waiting for - but I'd wait until it has a decent number of reviews out - that could take a while since it is not shipping yet.

Take a look at the Konus M30 Scope line. A lot of scope for the mony and not made in China of korea. Using it sucessfully on my M1A for a while know and can be had foe $300 if you scan the internet. SWFA has it for $299.95. Most sites for $450

Just throwing this out there, but be careful about your objective size. It's hard enough to get a decent cheek weld on a scoped M-14. No reason to have to put even higher rings on there.

Would you say that 50mm is too much? I have a cheek riser coming from desert warrior, the kydex one, will the 50mm be to much?

Re: need a new optic for m1a

If your cheek rest is high enough, you'll be fine with a 50mm objective. It also depends on what kind of mount you have. A standard side-attached mount like a Sadlak or similar will allow lower mounting than if you have the Extended Rail Cluster, which is a full flattop rail and requires higher rings.
